You get better with the wax, also. I use a tissue to dry off the bracket after I have warmed up a little piece of wax. If your fingers are dry and the bracket is dry, it sticks on there really well! It was really hard at first, but I can do it pretty quick now and it hasn't even been two weeks. And ...

Welcome -- I also work in the schools as a speech therapist. I got my braces 10 days ago (the upper are ceramic, but the lower are all metal, baby). I work primarily with kids with disabilities, many with autism, and it will be interesting to see who notices and who doesn't. I have one little girl w...

Day 10 with braces
Well, I am on day 10 with braces. I can tell you that the wires ripping up your mouth thing gets TONS better. The first week is the worst. I slept without any wax last night and haven't used any today and am really not uncomfortable. And last week, I didn't have any pain in my teeth. But yesterday a...

Okay -- I will make myself chew more. It is uncomfortable, but also has the strange sensation that I am chewing with someone else's teeth. Like they are dentures or something! Anyway, whatever will make my teeth move the most easily, I am all for. My lips feel better today and it is only day 6 with ...

Thank you!
Thanks for all the encouragement! I still have yet to see another adult with braces, but hearing about people out there going through the same thing helps so much. My ortho actually called me tonight (Sunday night) to check and see how I was doing! Also made me feel really good. My lips and cheeks a...

Well, I waxed just about every bracket last night and it did help. My cheeks feel a bit better today. I tried to eat bread pudding for breakfast, but could not chew the crusts and had to spit them out. Sandra, you got your braces the same time as I did--are you still on baby food?? I had a huge anxi...

Okay -- duh, read the directions and am going to give it a shot at the photo.

Thanks for the tips -- I definitely plan on packing on the wax tonight. I thought about buying one of those dental guard for people who clench their teeth at night. Has anyone tried that? They are $20, but I thought it would be worth it if you could just slip them on each night and your lips/cheeks ...

Ouch
Well, this morning I woke up and peeled my lips off my braces. My teeth still don't really hurt, just feel tight, but my cheeks feel like hamburger. I put wax on some brackers last night, but I guess not enough. It was hard to get the wax to stick -- it would stick to my fingers, but not the bracket...

Thanks for the encouragement
It's so great to see so many other people my same age are brave enough to get braces! I am hoping it is going to get easier to eat and clean up afterwards. It doesn't hurt that much to eat, but feels like half of what I eat ends up caught in my wires. And I don't even want to talk about flossing! I ...

great pic
Great picture, Sandra. Yeah -- someone else my age who took the plunge! I should put a picture of my braces. With the elastics, I admit that my self-esteem is pretty low. And I feel like I have to apologize to every person I meet, like it is painful for them to have to see me! Suddenly feeling 16 ag...

Day two of braces for a 45 year old!
:D I have been visiting this site for the last few weeks and have been so grateful to get so much information to prepare me. Yesterday I had my braces put on and am happy to say that they have not been a painful as I thought they would be. I am mostly amazed at how crooked my teeth look with the bra...
