Closing the Gaps

I'm curious about how everyone's orthodontist is closing the gaps. Mine has been using a closing coil and power thread for three years. It looks like power chains and arch loops are more popular. Also, did your doc straighten first and then close? Mine started closing right away and we're now having...

Thanks. This is good advice. I've certainly been more active lately. I've been in 4 extra times in the last 6 months because I've gone home and noticed a mistake he's made. (after 3 years you start to catch on). My problem is: what about the stuff I don't know about? I'm worried he wont' be able to ...

It seems powerchains and arch loops are the best route. What are the disadvantages of closing coils in comparison?

Also, it seems as though other orthodontist straighten first then close the gaps. Mine closed first and now we're having trouble straightening. Which is better?

Yeah, I'm sure you're right about doing it myself. What is the most effective and/or popular way to close gaps from tooth extraction? My Doc has been using closing coils and power thread for 3 years now. I keep hearing about power chains. Is that the way to go?

He threads it around two teeth and literally ties it into a square knot. I've learned to come home and fashion rubber bands around it to close the gap myself. I'm looking for some info/testimonies to present to him about this "power thread" stuff if most doc's don't use it.

It's slightly elastic, but it looks exactly like a piece of white string.

Power Thread

Does anybody know anything about power thread? My dentist uses it and I don't think it works. It looks like a piece of string he ties around two teeeth to close gaps.

Thanks for the reply. You're right, I did no initial research. A huge mistake. But what's done is done.

If I go somewhere else, can I legally (or ethically) ask for some sort of refund or financial compensation? What have other people done in this situation?

I need some advice.

I'm in serious need of advice. I'm 28, been in braces for 36 months and Doc. estimated 6 more. The problem is the Doc. He has failed to order in the proper parts on time, he has made some bad decisions, and lately made a lot of mistakes in the chair. He has closed one gap, for example, 3 times b/c h...
