Hey Tori I can relate to what you're saying. I was swollen for a lot longer than most people are, but you are only 2 weeks post op, so this is pretty normal. My upper jaw was moved 8mm so it was more drastic. Things will get better just give it more time. It can be hard to go out in public when you'...

Honestly it's pretty weird. I can only feel plates and screws on the right side and they kind of throb occasionally so I'm going to see if I can get them removed eventually, but I doubt my OS will be enthusiastic about it. It is kind of weird, everything with this surgery, so I guess that would be w...

Hey I had upper jaw surgery and initially I was supposed to be wired shut for 2 weeks but I cut off the wires after 10 days because I just couldn't take the garbage taste in my mouth. I went on heavy elastics for a few weeks after but I was allowed to eat soft foods that you didn't really have to ch...

Yeah this was my biggest problem after the surgery. I wasn't completely informed about how different I would look, I just thought I would look a little different. Some people didn't even recognize me. I spent the last semester of grade 12 swollen and kind of depressed about the whole thing. I even h...

Question about plates and screws?
I have posted this earlier but I didn't get very many replies so I thought I'd try again. When I touch my face I can feel screws and plates at the bottom of my nose on both sides and these don't bother me. The problem that I have is that when I touch my right cheek I can feel 2 big screws and plates...

Yeah that is exactly how I feel, I kind of want them out but I think they would have to cut your gums open again like in jaw surgery to get them out, so it's probably not worth it unless they're infected. I wonder why some stick out more than others though, could they somehow get loose or something?

plates and screws
I was just wondering if anyone else can feel the screws and plates that were put in as part of rigid fixation. I had upper jaw surgery and I noticed that when I touch my right cheek I can distinctly feel 3 screws under my eye socket and when i push on them slightly it kind of hurts. On the left side...

I'm more distressed though that you say your TMJ is in worse shape post-op. Have you discussed/did you discuss that with your ortho and OS? I went for a post op check up about 2 months after my surgery with the OS. That was about 2 years ago. Since then, I made an appointment about a month ago to g...
