What does your ortho say still needs doing? Roots move more slowly than the crowns, so even when your teeth look like they are in the right position the braces still need to be on in order to keep them in position while the roots catch up. On the other hand if you want them off then you can just ins...

I brush twice a day for about 1 minute at a time, I have never flossed in my life. Neither my dentist or ortho has ever said anything other than that my teeth are in perfect condition. I think some people worry too much about cleaning, but then again too much is better than too little.

How to get to sleep

I am getting my braces off on Monday, having spent 1/5 of my entire life with them on, woo! Anyway since I found out that I was going to be debraced 5 weeks ago I have hardly been able to sleep with the excitement, and I am sure Sunday will be like Christmas Eve when you are 10 years old. I have a b...

I didn't lose much weight due to braces, in fact I put it on after I stopped playing rugby, but after my surgery I dropped from 203lbs to 168lbs in about a month.

Do they not put a strip of rubber over the braces? I have had this whenever I have had impressions with braces on, it allows the mould to come out easily and no gunk gets left in the braces.

Thanks for the replies, why is it unusual to have bonded retainers on the top? The reason I am having a bonded on top is because of my short roots so bonding the teeth should strengthen them (I think). But why don't more people have them, I would have thought it would be more convenient for everybod...

Different impressions for different types of retainer?

Can you tell what kind of retainers you will be getting from the impressions? My ortho mentioned something about bonded retainers but from reading this forum most people with bonded seem to have either hawleys or essixes as well. When I had my retainer impressions taken he only took little moulds of...

I go to a big NHS dental hospital, I don't think there are any "assistants" but there are dental nurses, however all they do is hand things to the ortho, make the mixtures needed for impressions and that kind of thing. There are about 10 orthodontists at the hospital and they all work in t...

Hey my ortho asked me if I cared about the last few little gaps, having had 4 years in braces (aged 17-21) I told him I didn't care at all and they are coming off in 2 weeks. I agree with you about losing the best years of your life to braces, it sucks. If you want them off then get them off, people...

Hey those could have been photos of me! Apart from the blonde hair.

I used to hate having photos taken as I though they were horrible too, but since my op I don't mind at all, the surgery has massively improved my confidence.

How far away are you moving? It might be possible to stay with your current ortho as appointments are quite far apart, and just have the surgery at a hospital near to where you are moving to.

I live in Nottingham for university but I still travel home to Manchester once a month or so to see my ortho.

I got surgery 3 weeks after meeting the surgeon. As for looking well again, after 3 weeks I was still swollen like a balloon, it took about 5 weeks before I looked relatively normal again. I my surgery mid-semester, missed the last 4 weeks of term and then had an extra 4 weeks for the Christmas holi...
