Topic: Any TIPS on preventing broken brackets?

I pretty much ate most stuff, french bread was ok if it had mayonnaise in it which softened the bread overall.

I did pop a bracket off once and that was on a hard nut in a japanese nut mix. Unfortunately it was when i was away and it was a nightmare experience.

I used to use the thicker ones when out and about along with a miniature bottle of mouthwash, great for when you couldn't brush your teeth.

Mouthwash with hydrogen peroxide really worked for me. I know some people make their own but I just bought the colgate stuff. I could never get on with wax so the mouthwash was very helpful!

I had my lower brace on firsts, by six months. I did, however, have to wear a bite plate (removable appliance that looks a bit like a hawley retainer but without a wire at the front). At least two other people on these forums have had their lowers on that I can think.

I read online that Essix style retainers can also be used for tweaking, but don't have any personal experience. I have bonded upper and lower (I have to go to the ortho every 6 months for a check up and she will top up the bonding if necessary) and clear vacuum retainers upper and lower for nights o...

ariel - try some isotonic toothpaste! It's great. There's a couple of brands that do it but I tend to get Aquafresh as it's less expensive than the others. Re whitening toothpastes I used to think they didn't do anything but there's a colgate one which dental hygienist said some clients really liked...

I use isotonic toothpaste which i love the way it foams up. Previously I used colgate's oxygen bubble. I feel these get into nooks and crannies better than a regular paste.

Adalia, just read back on your previous posts. Don't worry about your metal brackets - once one moves forward in treatment, clear brackets don't seem to matter much when your mouth is full of all types of stuff like elastics and closing loops! I think quite a few people on archwired have waterpiks, ...

I don't have any pics of mine but you can see them in this Ormco product catalogue, they are called Spirit. http://www.ormco.com/index/Ormco-Products (Ormco also make some of the very well known brands like Damon and Inspire) I also googled to see if I could find some pictures and found some picture...

Another week to go till I'm debraced, yay! I will have bonded retainers top and bottom and essix-style retainers top and bottom to wear at nights for a year, but I will try and wear them more e.g. when I'm at home.

I have clear braces top and bottom and the brackets definitely don't stain as I had a bracket replaced after 2 years and checked the new one carefully but it was practically the same colour. I had wire ligatures throughout so didn't have the staining issues on ligatures, although I did have the odd ...

I haven't been to as many 40 countries, but certainly I've been to a few and am off the beaten track due to my work. I don't think I've ever been anywhere where braces are not known (though I haven't been to sub saharan africa) and most places braces are more common than the UK (well at least on adu...

No idea. But my ortho was complaining about her braces the other day (second time on, she didn't wear her retainers, let that be a lesson to you!) and I mentioned about red wine and she said she was having that..and a 'small pill' so I think you're probably relatively safe!

"All I can bring is toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, and some interdental brushes" Actually that's not my perception of 'roughing it' either. Must be a cultural thing. I read once that a baby in the US consumes 8 times as much as a baby in the UK (and something like 20 times one of southern ...
