Getting Braced Today!

Finally! Today is brace day, and I must admit, I'm a little more nervous than I thought I would be. I was fine until this morning and then it hit me. I'm stuck in these things for at least a year and a half! I'm getting just the top done, and they're Clarity, but I saw another post on here saying th...

crazybeautiful...good to hear your surgery went well!! I've heard that turning the expander can be pretty difficult but I'm sure you (or your mom) will get the hang of it soon enough. Keep us posted with your progress...

I think you guys are right - Another opinion is the way to go. That being said (and I don't know why I didn't do this before) I have booked a consultation with my dentist to discuss my ortho's plan. My dentist has some orthodontic training so he should be able to provide some very valuable insight. ...

Delag - This is the only ortho I have seen. He was recommended by my dentist (who I trust completely and entirely) and he seems to be a good fit for me. I have no doubt that his diagnosis and recommendations are correct, and I appreciate that he has just laid it on the table and allowed me to make m...

Ward - 8 lobsters!!! Impressive!!! I was told there was a "function" reason and an "esthetic" reason for the SARPE. Function: crossbite correction Esthetic: widen my (extremely) narrow jaw so I will have more of a "Hollywood" smile. My ortho said that a crossbite can le...

MGood...My orhto has only mentioned SARPE, but I haven't been to see the Oral Surgeon yet. I'm still flip-flopping on having the SARPE, so if he even mentions additional surgeries, I'm pulling the plug on the whole thing and just getting my top teeth braced. I came into this just wanting a pretty sm...

Delag...My consult with the surgeon is early January and I should get a date then. My ortho is guessing around April, but that will depend on the availability of the surgeon - He is very busy! (I took that as a good sign!) I will likely get braced before Christmas though, so at least I can get start...

Delag...Thanks for your response! I just got back and you're right - I could wait and make a decision about the SARPE later. My ortho said the problem with waiting is that the overall treatment time is going to be longer and there will be additional costs. He explained the pros and cons of both ways...

Okay...so I go for my records appointment today and am starting to freak out a bit..the "Oh my God, what have I gotten myself into" thoughts have started to seep in... I was torn between just getting my top teeth braced and having a cosmetically nice smile...or having SARPE and all my teet...

Ward - Congrats on getting rid of your expander! How long did you have it in for? Also good to hear that you might not need the Lefort 1, although having screws put in doesn't sound like a picnic either...hope you can have your celebratory meal soon! Do you have any progress or before/after pics? Ash

I finally feel like this whole journey is really starting now. I have my records consult next week, and my surgeon consult the first week of January (apparently he's super busy and this was the earliest date I could get!) It seems like a long way off but at least it's a start. Brandy...Without sound...

Hey everyone... So I called my Ortho assistant about having the expander put in closer to the surgery date. At first she kinda blew me off and said it was just the way it was done but I pushed her to at least talk to my otho about it. He agreed that as long as I get a firm surgery date at my surgeon...

Brandy...Thanks so much for your response. I think I will ask my ortho at my records visit if we can put the expander in at a later date. Hopefully he agrees! Congrats on getting your braces off soon! It sounds like you have had a lot of work done so you must be looking forward to an empty mouth!! I...

Hey Everybody... I have read every single page and am inspired by all of you! I trust your opinions, so thought I would run something by you. This is the "tentative" (what a scary word!) plan for me: Braces (top and bottom) & Expander put on SARPE & extraction of 4 wisdom teeth: 4 ...
