Does one have to have a history of TMJ issues, etc in order to be covered by insurance? My bite is considerably off and I have breathing issues, but to my recollection, I have no previous medical records indicating issues related to my misaligned jaw. :?

Well, Meryaten, I just called to schedule an appointment with NJDS and again, the receptionist was quick to tell me that I would bear the cost of such surgery and that there is not one doctor in that office that does this type of surgery. She also added that Cigna no longer participates with this sc...

The list is quite long and certainly enough to search through. I'm just looking for a convenient location along with experience. I guess I have to do some homework.

Thanks for the replies. I am located in NJ and there seems to be a wealth of surgeons in my area. In fact some of the best are located here, however, insurance coverage is the main issue. My ortho recommended one of the most popular/skilled surgeons but, they do not accept Cigna, so that's a no-go. ...

I'm feeling discouraged! Rant.

Why does this have to be so difficult? You guys don't know but, I've been attempting to get my teeth in order for over ten years. And each time I've run into major roadblocks. Whether it's financial or lack of insurance, I've encountered it all. I've met with my ortho and have all of the money ready...

Does Jaw surgery fall under medical or dental insurance???

I am totally confused. :? If one is to have surgery on their jaw, would this coverage be assessed by the medical insurance or dental insurance? My medical and dental insurance are affiliated, I believe, but still are quite different in terms of coverage. My dental is quite limited but my medical, wh...

I think it's kind of odd that two professionals would label common oral surgery as "awful". Sounds unprofessional to me. :?

The ortho said everything was covered. So, I'm assuming that means everything from hardware to visits. He said the retainer will be worn for about a year, too. So after I stepped back and took it all in (LOL!) I think it all makes $en$e. I will be getting the details very soon.
