How long after surgery until the gym?

I'm anxious to get back into weight training but know I will have to go light. Do you have to wait for the splint to come out??

I'm having my upper and lower jaw surgery tomorrow!!! I'm so anxious and nervous all at once. I can't wait to have it done. :) I had my upper jaw broken and expanded 2 years ago (SARPE) so I have an idea what to expect. Still doesn't keep me from feeling nervous though! Thanks everyone!! I met with my surgeon on Thursday and he's pretty confident I won't have to be wired shut! He said he only wires people shut if he absolutely has to and they only account for about 3%. I'm very happy and relieved but still mentally prepared to wake up in recovery wired shut. I can'...

Thank you Mary! How are you feeling? Did you find everything went well?

I was just wondering if you are wired shut or have elastics?

Thanks for taking the time to respond!

Weight Loss with Double Jaw Surgery?

Hi everyone! I am set to have upper and lower jaw surgery on June 1st. I had rapid palate expansion in June of 2008 and lost over 20 lbs. I have been told that this surgery will be more involved and may possibly involve being wired shut. The last time I was able to eat soft foods but it's my underst...

Trust me I was totally hoping I misunderstood him LOL. I asked a few times and he told me due to the nature of my LeForte and SARPE that I need to give my bones time to heal and that it's going to be slow. He said if I chew too soon or workout I could end up breaking whatever new bone has started to...

Hi folks! Long time no post! I had my SARPE LeFort surgery back on June 4th and am doing quite well! My expansion was done slowly so my appliance was only cemented to heal about 5 weeks ago. I'm anxiously awaiting the green light to start chewing and lifting weights at my gym again. My oral surgeon ...

Hi there! A posted suggested to me after surgery that I should a q-tip when cleaning around my incisions. I did this after getting the approval of my oral surgeon and it went great! No infection and feeling wonderful. :) Some of my stitches started coming out around 2 weeks after surgery. Best of lu...

Hi there! I am 3 weeks post op from le fort and I'm just finally starting to feel back to my old self. My upper jaw was broken in 3 segments like a previous poster above and I find it painful at times but not too bad. I'm on a soft / liquid diet - everything blended really well. I can totally relate...

Hi everyone! It's been forever since I posted. I have been posting in the Oral Surgery section about my Sarpe - LeFort that took place on June 3rd. I wanted to post some pictures to my Braces stories here for everyone to see. I'm so excited! I am turning my appliance once a day with an odd break her...

Hi everyone! I'm 12 days post op and feeling pretty good! The swelling has gone down dramatically and the bruising is pretty much gone. I started turning my appliance one turn a day last Monday. My oral surgeon checked things on Thursday and suggested to skip one day and give my mouth a rest. I'm 29...

Resuming exercise after LeFort?

I had SARPE/Lefort done this past Tuesday. I'm wondering what the average wait time is before I can start exercising again. Light aerobics such as cycling, walking or an elliptical. I know weight training is out for 3 months. I'm wondering how long other people waited.

Thanks.

I had SARPE / LeFort done this past Tuesday. I was told to start brushing my teeth yesterday and to make sure I get around my stitches. The hard part is that I'm so swollen that I can't see where I'm brushing and can't really feel it. There is a bit of blood when I do brush and I'm going very gentle...

Hi everyone! Just a quick update to let everyone know I survived my surgery yesterday. I'm pretty swollen and sore today but doing well. The hospital messed up and didn't give me any ice yesterday at all so I pretty swollen. I have been using warm compresses at home and that seems to be helping. My ...
