Allergic
The first week I got braced, I developed huge red swollen leisions on the inside mouth. An emergency trip to the ortho and he thought it was a reaction to maybe the nickel. It was horrible. Just short of removing the braces, I tried some Benadryl and it was gone in a day. Hope you are doing better b...

Runner with braces
I am a runner and cyclist, 54, and my biggest experience with the braces is they get COLD.....REAL cold. Guess I don't breathe through my nose enough, but this is my experience. It hasn't stopped me yet. Mouthguards didn't fit my bite, so that didn't work to keep them warmer. On the bike I put a ban...

What is the timeframe to make retainer
Can people share how long it was from getting the impressions to getting the retainer put in? Also, you don't go a number of days without braces until the retainer, do you? Don't you bet de-braced the same day that the retainer is put in?
Sorry if this is a repeat.

Ceramic vs. metal
I have ceramic on top and metal on the bottom. I found ceramic to be VERY SHARP, like tacks thrown in my mouth. It might depend on the bite more than anything.....the rubbing on the inside of the mouth due to the positioning of the teeth. So, lots of wax for me.
Good luck.

Reaction to Braces
One person got right up close to me and looked at my mouth and said "DID YOU GET BRACES?????"
I just replied: NO and walked away.
It was so much fun.

Flossing
I know that a WaterPick is not a substitution for flossing, but I find the WaterPick extremely helpful, more than flossing. It's a bit crowded in there to fit it in and around the braces and you have to be very careful, but it can be done, and it gets a lot out of there. I use warm water too which f...

I am not understanding how your ortho could divulge information to another doctor anyhow just because they are both in the teeth business? Did you sign a release/consent form? My regular dentist and my orthodontist are conveniently across the hall from each other and from day one, each of them asked...

GOLD CROWNS and ROOT CANAL
Does anyone have gold crowns they are dealing with in this process? I have two together and one became so sore, the band had to be removed. Now I am worried about the process...what happens with no band there? Also, I had a 5 year old root canal that was doing fine, then after braces it became so lo...

Bad Lisp with Elastics
I am 10 months into braces, ceramic top, metal bottoms. Just received 2 elastics in the front, a triangle and reverse triangle more or less under the "eye" teeth. This is causing a VERY BAD lisp/slurred speech with the "s" "sh", etc., to the point I don't want to talk a...
