Hey there, it sounds like my pre-surgery jaw alignment situation was very similar to yours. I have UnitedHealthcare insurance and my surgery was covered. However, a word of warning--the surgery was specifically excluded under my insurance plan, but once my surgeon submitted my x-rays and a letter ex...

Yes, an actual hot dog! I did think that was kind of funny, but I guess the poor guy just decided after 2 months he needed a hot dog. Anyway, to everyone out there, please avoid eating hot dogs (the normal way) for several months!

I had my first post-op appointment yesterday (1 week since Leforte I and BSSO), and I asked my surgeon about how hard it would be to break a plate. He said it would be pretty hard to break one, but definitely possible if I chewed too soon. I know the plates are made of titanium, which is very strong...

Hey Loulou, thanks for your response! That's good to know about the breathing and the breaking. One thing a nurse at my surgeon's office told me (this is what got me worried) was that the reason we aren't allowed to chew for a month after surgery is because the force of chewing can actually break a ...

Blowing your nose and breaking plates

Hi Everyone, I had Lefort I and BSSO last Wednesday and I have a couple of questions: (1) I know we are not supposed to blow our noses after this sort of jaw surgery, but sometimes I have breathed out of my nose and it sort of gives the effect of blowing it, but I am not really blowing it at all. Is...

Hi Raspberry, yes, I am glad that I have my parents with me to help me out. In fact, as JennX said, if they were not here, I know I would not be eating as well as I have been and I would be so tired and worried about running errands to the drug store and all (if I could even get myself to the drug s...

Hi everyone, I am finally on the other side! I had Leforte I and BSSO on Wednesday. Also, both my upper and lower jaws were advanced a little and evened out because the left side was a little longer than the right side. I spent one night in the hospital and have been home since. Both of my parents a...

I have my surgery scheduled for April 16 (I'm nervous too but sort of looking forward to it as well), with my big pre-op appointment tomorrow, so if I learn anything important, I will definitely let y'all know.

good point! I have lingual braces on my upper jaw and I know the ortho is going to put some brackets on the outside of my upper teeth, but not many, so I guess I won't be terribly tightly banded (I hope).
Thanks!

Nutritional Supplements in Powder Form?

Hi Everyone, I am having upper and lower jaw surgery in the next few weeks and I was going to buy some of the bromelain and arnica montana supplements that I read about on here, but I realized most of them come in pill form. Would someone who is having upper and lower surgery even be able to swallow...

I would go with option 2 also. You might as well only have to do one surgery now rather than follow-up ones later for the same problems if you can avoid it. Plus, it looks like the disadvantages to option 2 are only "possibilities" and the advantages are much greater. Also, for Chrisk--I a...

Hi, I'm new to this forum too and I am going to have upper and lower jaw surgery in the next few months (hopefully). My problem is similar to the ones you guys have mentioned, which is that the left side of my jaw is a little bigger than my right side. I anticipate that my jaws still won't be perfec...
