hey man, i'm not even close to 2.5 weeks post op but i just had a lefort 1 done (no genio) 5 days ago. From what i've read and experienced, the first few days are brutal but it gets a lot better after that, especially when you're in the clear for soft foods. For the first week, i think you should ta...

Hey there, I really know what you're going through cos i have the same exact diagnosis: underbite with long lower jaw and gummy smile. I went through 3 different ortho consults - each giving me their own take on what should be done. In the end i went with the non-surgical route. I'm around 8 months ...

Hmm i've read quite a fair bit on genio cos i plan on having my overly tall chin height reduced. Anyway back to your question Because your chin's recessed now, you can't really tell how large/small your chin really is. There's two dimensions to the chin: projection, which is how far it extends out w...

Sounds pretty hard to me, considering that the normal bite has a slight overbite.. so if an underbite were to be developing, you would be able to notice it pretty quickly

Ouch, sorry to hear about your bad experience. Did you voice out to your ortho that it was painful for you? I've had quite a 'similar' experience. You know how the end of the archwires are sorta turned inwards at the molar bands to 'lock' it into place? Well, during that process quite a large amount...

Sorry to say this, but how bad your teeth currently is doesn't affect the price.. same goes for how good it is.
Your teeth don't look too bad and you have a gorgeous profile, i like it, it's really feminine.
Ultimately it's whether you want a nicer smile and you'll probably get a better bite as well

hmmm i'm guessing you had crowding on your lower arch? Kerry, do you know why your ortho went with this route instead of not extracting + doing surgery?

Surgery after going non-surgical (extractions) route?

I really regret going down the extractions route.. anyone has personal experience with this? About having surgery after teeth are already extracted?

Will that still be possible with the top and bottom jaws having different amount of teeth?

hmm just thought i should reply to this. i never had an underbite as a kid but when i was in my teens, i'm guessing during the period from age 15-18, my lower jaw started to grow like crazy until i had a mild underbite. you should really get your son to see the ortho and see what he says.. on anothe...

anotherbraceface: i totally feel you on that. When i was younger, i had SEVERE nasal congestion almost EVERY night, i tried all sorts of ointment but to no avail. My mom never thought for me to seek medical help. i was 19 and sought help on my own, had an ENT check my nose, then i found out i had a ...

thanks, so in the end how many teeth did your top arch and bottom arch have? There wasn't a same number of teeth on both jaws?

In a weeeird situation.. any advice?

i had two lower teeth extracted to correct my mild underbite.. i have no crowding issues so it was sorely for that. but now i'm wondering if i will be completely satisfied with just extractions, as i'm told i'm a borderline case. would it be safe to say that if i changed my mind and want surgery now...

Actually, you can.
All you gotta do is make sure you don't get the guard too fitted, leaving ample room for the teeth to move but making sure it still has enough of a shape to stay in place during sleep. That's what i've been doing
