Re: Orthognathic Surgery outside the US
I would second Korea. I had mine done there because I lived there at the time. Everything went very well. Plastic surgery is extremely popular there, making it so a good doctor has tons of experience. My total was $10,000 for Lefort I, BSSO, and chin reduction.

Re: Depression and Loss of Energy after Surgery
Good to hear. For me it was not the immediate healing that was the problem, but rather the lingering stress on the body--my head wasn't really happy with that amount of facial trauma. It took me a while to get used to the new set-up, the lingering aches and pains associated with weather, and for all...

Re: Depression and Loss of Energy after Surgery
I got through this, btw, just for an update. The energy problems were the result of anxiety tension and the tendency of a medication I am taking (Paxil) to cause thicker mucus, thereby plugging my nose a bit. Loads of exercise and a nasal spray helped clear things out mentally and physically. I thin...

Depression and Loss of Energy after Surgery
I have not felt fully my former self since my surgery. My bite still feels awkward; I still have jaw-tension; whenever we get rain or snow or even really high pressure, my face goes haywire; my sinuses are persistently stuffy; yet, all my health professionals think things are fine, and that I'm fine...

Tongue Drives Me Nuts
Ever since I had a BSSO my tongue feels crowded in my mouth. I know my airway is slightly smaller, which isn't really a big issue for breathing, but the real problem is that my tongue rubs against the roof of my mouth. Kind of like it makes contact with my uvula too much. I'm 9 months post surgery, ...

 Thanks for the advice and support guys. I'll have to keep a close eye on things and make plans to get some second opinions. I'd like to have my surgeon in Seoul see things, as he was the guy who was actually in there with the blood and bone, but that's an expensive trip back. I wish I were sti...

I'm also glad that you are planning on seeing another surgeon for a second opinion. The second opinion never hurts! Keep us posted on how things progress. It's a good thing to share information. I never got around to seeing a second surgeon. I was too lazy, and the movement decreased after muscle r...

I trust my doctor, but I thrive on the internet. There is no doctor in the world who could be patient with all my questions, and the internet has fairly objective and accurate descriptions of what will be done in various situations. If there is a conflict of information, it's usually because the int...

Thanks for the advice and encouragement, Phil. I think I will see another surgeon just for my mental well being. I'm worried about what's going on in there with the tissue fiber and bone. What I wanted to have heard was that everything is perfect and as it should be and I never have to think about m...
