Yeah, no way he could make you keep them on. Will you have any trouble getting your money back? I hope not. Make sure you have an excellent periodontist to do all this work on your gums and get second opinions. You are not being a baby at all! To me, tooth pain is the utmost extreme and I want peopl...

Thank you! I obsess, and was just afraid I was going to spend 3 weeks reinforcing a "bad" bite! LOL Then again, my ortho did not seem overly concerned and he's the bite expert, now, isn't he? Jennielee, I just have to say you have the most BEAUTIFUL smile! If the rest of your face i...

Can't really bite down---help!

This is really kind of freaking me out. My bite is really not a huge issue (fortunately) but since I have had the braces on (with molar bands), I can't really bite down. My left upper "premolar?" rests on the band of my lower molar---I could be wrong, I don't really know tooth names yet---...

Mazdagirl, that's horrible! Is there maybe a kindhearted ortho around who will take the brackets off for you before then? Tell 'em you'll pay $50 if they'll just take them off. I'm so sorry you are going through all this. I hope it all works out.

FYI---Consumer Reports did a study on whitening toothpastes and found cheap-o UltraBright to be the most "whitening". I don't think it even contains peroxide, which IS a bleach.

I am so sorry to hear this! Do you think maybe most of your pain/distress is caused by that naughty tooth and not the braces? I can totally understand your distress and I admit that my greatest fear is a root canal. I wish you luck with it. Please let us know how you do!

Mazdagirl, I am so sorry you're this upset. Keep focusing on the fact that you can have them taken off anytime you choose. I get a little claustrophobic, and this is no different. Also, keep busy! Everyone on here has gone through exactly what we did....and they're still here! We can do this!

Mazdagirl, I thought I was going to go crazy yesterday and a couple times today. The braces were all I could think about. I told myself they have to stay on for at least 3 weeks and then if I really want to get them taken off, I can. Knowing there's only a finite time helps. I doubt I'll actually ge...

adilap and mazdagirl, I got mine on the 4th, too! I had a harder time with the etching fluid than I did the glue. The cleats on my bands are killing me under my tongue, even though he worked on them. I just called him and I'm going in tomorrow to have them worked on again. I feel like I can't truly ...

Oh, Arvensis, I am sorry for that! :( You are far braver than I. I really thought I had dodged a bullet there, but then when "rotating teeth" was mentioned, I realized it's probably "game on" for me. Oh well. It's not like I know any better, right?

thanks for the reassurance. Don't get me wrong---I'd love to lose a little weight from not being able to eat, but this has me a bit nervous. I suppose that is why God let us create analgesics. I need to start looking on here for other things I won't be able to eat and then I'll have a mock funeral f...

newbie question....does everybody get these?

Am I guaranteed to get this frightening thing called the power chain? I'm getting the impression that they're just for closing gaps? Sorry if this is the dumbest question ever.

sugar free not for me!

I can't have aspartame or sucralose. They give me memory loss and terrible headaches. I have to admit I hadn't thought about the impact these braces will have on my dietary life. I may have to go for that Xylitol sweetener. So much to change!

this is what I'm afraid of

I am a commitment phobe. (Although I'm very happily married, it took me two years to get used to the idea! LOL) I am so afraid that I am going to get these things on and then FREAK OUT  My contingency plan involves: 1) packing the entire brackets and wire with wax 1/2 an inch thick and 2) onl...
