Re: TADs vs Surgery

On a happy note, I will be getting my braces off on Monday from UNC Dental School. They have successfully closed my open bite using the bone anchors to intrude my upper molars and feel that I will have a fairly stable result. After the braces are off I will have a clear retainer up top for daytime u...

Re: TADs vs Surgery

I have bone anchors (a type of TAD) for open bite. I have had braces for three years at the UNC dental school in NC. They are fairly new technology so there is trial and error for more drastic changes such as closing an open bite. They have managed to intrude my upper molars to close down the bite s...

Re: TADs

I think it depends on the type you get. Some require immediate loading and others require time to integrate with the bone...

I forgot to add that most dental schools require you to be accepted into the program, meaning that you are a good teaching case before you can receive treatment.

I am in braces for the second time (once from a private ortho as a teen) and now as an adult with the Dental School at the University of North Carolina. Prior to being accepted at the dental school I had a consult with an ortho that my dentist recommended. The fee to just straighten the teeth with b...

Braced 6/2008, TAD's 2/2009 and they were loaded in 3/09. I've had a lot of movement and good results and hope to finish up this coming spring/summer. My upper back teeth (7's) have not intruded as much as needed but my ortho believes that is due to the anti-tip device being only attached at the 6's...

While I think it is really cool that they can now attach the bone anchors and other tads to invisalign, my ortho told me that they still can get the most efficient motion with the old school metal braces. He said that it even exceeds the rate of progress with ceramic. They are stronger and can simpl...

Being at the Dental School I had to pay and get reimbursed since they do not file insurance at all. I had to do all of my paperwork and claims myself which was time consuming and a hassle but it was worth it because I have saved significantly over going to the orthodontists in my area.

Hey Clo,
I finally got some photos on. Here are my before treatment photos and my progess thus far. I hope to get some profile shots on soon but so far have not been coordinated enough to show it properly.

I guess the more appropriate term would be before and then progress so far as I still have more work to go.

Here are some photos of my before and after. After they straightened my teeth the open bite was increased so they are using the bone anchors to bring it in. http://www.flickr.com/photos/39560218@N07/sets/72157619914658090/ This is my first link posting so if it does not work please let me know what ...

I had a larger open bite than you (not sure how many mm but based on the photo I can tell it was much larger) and have seen some great improvements with the bone anchors in lieu of jaw surgery. I am still in treatment with the bone anchors but my open bite has greatly decreased so I am optimistic th...
