micachica, Did your ortho recommend any follow-up or alternate treatment methods after removing your lower braces? I'm curious as to how you are having this handled. During my records review, my ortho noted that if there were problems with the resorbed tooth root using regular braces, he would have...

I am currently undergoing my first time in braces and am a year and a half into treatment. I experienced root resorption on my bottom four front teeth and had to have my bottom braces removed two weeks ago. I think it all depends on how short your roots are to begin with and not so much how many tim...

I've had a tongue bar for coming up on 10 years. I've had my braces on for a year and a half and it has not interfered with my treatment at all.

I'm having my lowers taken off a year earlier than expected but in a negative, not finished sorta way. My bottom front roots are too short to continue treatment and I experienced root resorption.

The NIGHT I got my braces on, my now boyfriend fell in love with me, asked me out 2 months later and we have been happy ever since. Could just be a coincidence but I knew the guy for over a year before he asked me out.

I too had very little pain when my braces first went on about 10 months ago. But every now and then, about once a month, I'll get some severe pain issues, usually when my molars decide to start moving or when my gaps are closing with rubberbands. The pain usually only lasts a day or so and then it's...

I had that problem when I first got my elastics, I chalked it up to my mouth just getting used to them. Kinda like when your teeth move and the brackets hit a new area of your mouth and your sore for a few days til the new area gets used to the bracket. My soreness went away after a week or two.

Could you try rescheduling your ortho appointment for AFTER your cleaning? Then your teeth would be all clean before the braces went on and you wouldn't have to worry about pain at all.

One of my long time friends actually asked me out on a date AFTER my braces were placed! I think I'm just that much more fun to be around cause I don't feel like a bucked tooth beaver anymore! I hate eating out just because I can't smile until I finish my food and brush my teeth so I always feel lik...

I CAN eat with my elastics in! That's what makes this so weird! Honesty is the best policy :) I guess I'll just have to explain everything to my ortho and hope he doesn't laugh me out of the office. :)

brackets popping off, kissing, and elastics

So I had my first kissing session with braces yesterday. I have had them for two months. I have class II elastics. Today I had a bracket pop off that my elastic was attached to and the one on the corresponding canine feels loose. Does this normally happen? My ortho didn't mention anything about remo...

Pain is normal for the first few days, and even during treatment. Your teeth are moving! Just try to chew things cause that helps. Take a stronger pain reliever if needed. Soft, mushy food is good at first. Cold things help numb your mouth, try smoothies, ice cream, etc. It does get better, promise!

I think what you're referring to is root scaling. It's basically just a cleaning but under your gums. They scrape all the tarter and buildup off the teeth under the gumline. My brother just had this done. He had to get his gum pulled back over his teeth, cleaned, and then the perio sewed it back tog...

Wires work for a really long time. The same one can be used for months. The continue working until they reach the shape they orginally were. You don't normally get a new wire at each appt. Just new ligs (maybe if you have them) powerchains, etc. So do not fret!! :)

Since the orthos job is to straigten your teeth and a periodontists job is to deal with gum problems, I'd start by visitng a periodontist. They will be the ones most able to help correct the problem. They can point fingers at the ortho, but if you look at your treatment plan it should say in the ris...
