studying abroad & braces

Anyone ever study abroad during orthodontic treatment? I have a chance to study in Oxford UK in the fall semester -- this would be approx. 4 months gone. It is my last semester and only chance. I really want to go but at this point I'm resigned to not going because I'm afraid it will complicate my e...

is this possibly a gum infection?

I have a molar band which is producing a sour taste from the gum underneath. It's also making my breath smell prettu awful, and when I swab the gum around the molar band with a Q-tip, the smell is like rotting meat :yuck: Is it possible the gum is infected due to the way the band is positioned? The ...

This is a good time to bring up my question on dental notation. Is it really the Universal Numbering System that most professionals use? My ortho referred to my back molars as sevens, so I thought it was more consistent with another dental notation system (Palmer?)

Suetemi and Meryaten, the crown that is giving me a problem did have a root canal on it. However I dont' think there are nerves left or anything like that because it's not painful inside at all. It just feels strange, and it hurts a bit when I push or pull hard on it (like when the ortho was banding...

Hmm. Here's the thing: my molars are a mess. I have 5 crowns, 2 onlays, and a filling. Hey, you're like me. I also currently have 5 crowns and two onlays. I also have countless deep fillings which are likely to need root canals and crowns in the future. :( How did you end up with so dental problems...

Seems like maybe Sappho's crowned teeth are just generally in an overly sensitised state right now? (as was my problem tooth!!) Perhaps the crowns are more recent, perhaps there is an ongoing bruxing habit, or perhaps there is something else going on? I didn't mean to imply that crowns are troubles...

Hey, thanks to all for the insight. I find it particularly beneficial to get such varying replies. In my case I know the positives would greatly outweigh any negatives as my bite causes me so much discomfort and I'm unhappy with the way I look because of my jaws. So I'm going to go ahead and expect ...

concerns from an initiate

Hi everyone, I'm 26 and just got braces this week, officially beginning my path to double jaw surgery to correct a Class II malocclusion. The bracing process wasn't as smooth or painless as I'd hoped, as I have quite a few crowned teeth, some of are sensitive to pressure and were difficult to get ba...

Hey Spartanfan, good to hear you're having a good recovery. Do you have any before and after pics? Also, does anyone know where I can find a diagram of what a Lefort 1 3-piece looks like (where the cuts are made)? The reason I ask is I'm having the same surgery, along with BSSO, at the end of the ye...
