Re: Canine Substitution With Impacted Canines and Extraction of Lateral Incisors, Aged 47 3/4

Had a second visit with the orthodontist today, at my dentist's request. He keeps saying he's not trying to put me off proceeding but discussed how risky it would be. 1. active periodontitis could result in losing more teeth than the planned extractions 2. front tooth injured in my teens could turn ...

Re: Criteria for Adult Orthodontic Treatment on NHS?

Apparently there are different categories of 'severe'. Got a reply from the British Orthodontic Association, "To receive NHS funded treatment as an adult, the problem would need to be very severe usually involving surgery such as orthognathic surgery".

Criteria for Adult Orthodontic Treatment on NHS?

I have impacted canines, one of which seemed to erupt in Feb 17 at the back of my lateral incisor but not moved since. Not sure if because it's on the move or due to gum recession, but my lateral incisor has moved in the last few years. There is not much bone now around the lateral incisor so the pl...

Canine Substitution With Impacted Canines and Extraction of Lateral Incisors, Aged 47 3/4

I was here in 2005-6, watching Joplin's progress through impacted canine removal and straightening of lateral incisors. I had been advised to have similar, but attention was diverted elsewhere as I switched archwired for kneeguru. Now, 12 years on, things are a bit more complicated. One of the canin...

Re: Braces at 33, with canine substitution (missing lateral incisors)

Swisscat, your pictures are very encouraging. I was here in 2006 when I declined removal of impacted canines. Now, aged 47, one of them has erupted and I have little bone around the lateral incisor which has become mobile. The plan is extraction of both lateral incisors (eek!) and bring the canines ...

I cannot believe the difference in such a short period of time. It's amazing! I can't stop looking at your pictures. Getting more tempted to do it myself now. To save me looking back, how long do you expect to be braced for?

Looking good Joplin! What a difference on the right. You can actually see the front face of the tooth - from the front! The left is moving too, slowly but surley. Can't believe it's three months already!

WOW! So much has happened since I last checked in. Can't believe I've missed all the excitement (but guessing Joplin is still v excited!) So glad to hear you got through all the surgery and everything was fairly straight forward... and now for the good stuff. It's fantastic to see your teeth braced ...

Hi, Loop. I just posted on Joplin's thread looking for news. I thought your surgery was 24th. Glad to hear it all went well. And am in agreement with everyone else, I am so envious of both of you for having the guts to go ahead. Well done!

Loop? 13th April? For some reason I thought it was 24th. How did it go?

Hi Loop, I think the pegging or pinning of the root is to secure the tooth and prevent it moving again once it is in correct position. Is this not common practice after braces then? Perhaps just in these cases? Or dependent on how much the tooth has to be moved? Really not sure as I have not been br...

Good news, Joplin, that your laterals seem to be relatively unaffected. And in a way it's good news that they can now tell you what is necessary. The fewer decisions you have to make, the less you have to worry about them being the right decisions! Still not sure about all the digging under local an...

Great, Joplin, that things are beginning to move along now. So the next x-rays will determine whether the teeth will be removed from in front or behind the arch?

As for no general anaesthetic... you brave woman! I'll opt for knocked out thanks, I don't want to know anything about it!

Oh dear Joplin...sounds like you're getting pushed into a corner now with the surgery. Extraction in the hope of bringing down the impacted teeth definitely sounds to risky if it doesn't work out and you end up with implants. I saw your other post looking for post-op peeps and wait with interest also.
