I love my teeth- Dr. McD is also a very highly reputable surgeon - my friend had his BSSO done by him many many years ago, and had a similar experience as mine :) My ortho is Dr. Smith - I'm using Invisalign so that's why I chose him, and he's also located in Richmond where I live. The surgery was d...

Hi AZWILDCATS - I'm exactly the same :) I like to know in every detail of what is going to happen ! Maybe if you called your surgeon and asked exactly what type of anaesthetic they are using, this would help better prepare yourself mentally and with your work. I didn't read your other post until now...

no, my bands were not as thick as yours - i had the same elastics as they use in orthodontics -3 oz weight (?) so I could move my jaws while my elastics were on and was allowed to take them off for eating and brushing- so I wasn't banded totally shut like yours... doing the exercises my surgeon show...

I'm also from Vancouver, and it sounds like we may have the same surgeon (Dr. W?) I'm 29 and I had my BSSO on June 5- to correct my underbite, and am probably 95% recovered now (almost 3 months after) My surgery was scheduled for 8:40am - I arrived at 6:45am for pre-op papers, etc, and wheeled into ...

Hi AZWILDCATS - When I had my screws removed, they used a topical "numbing" ointment on the screw sites to kind of "numb" the area (like novacain ) They used these long q-tips to apply them for a few minutes - I didn't have any local/general anesthetic (ie: needles). It took the ...

I remember that my gums were tender in the areas where the rubber bands would "dig" into my gums. The bands were so tight that they were almost slicing into my gums.. so i put some cotton underneath those areas to act like a cushion.. I'm not sure if you have the same issue. I think my ela...

Hi AZWILDCATS- I had the EXACT same screws (4 on top, and 4 on bottom) put in to stabilize my bite and to "guide" my jaws together after my BSSO (I have invisalign instead of traditional braces) - 4 on the top, and 4 on the bottom. I hope the pain meds work for you - - I also found that wa...

That's great news! I'm not sure if this will help you, but instead of getting braces, I chose to go the invisalign route - so technically, I don't have braces :) I wore my invisalign for about a year before I had my surgery ( I had a BSSO to correct my class III on June 5th). Although my teeth were ...

Just had a BSSO done on June 5th and it was considered a "day surgery" - so I had the surgery at 8:00am, was awake by 11:00am, and left by 4:00pm that same day. I'm not sure if this is because of our medical system in BC ( there is a MAJOR shortage of hospitol beds here ), or if this is ju...

Hey - I really hope that those AB's are working for you - Dr. W just prescribed me the same Clindamycin yesterday for my wisdom teeth removal, but never mentioned anything about the lying down part? - so far i haven't noticed any side effects and I only got 10 pills (3/day). My fingers are crossed f...
