Welcome to the morass known as dealing with your insurance company. I was pre-approved, had a letter to prove it, and still had them denying payment for the claim for ridiculous reasons (stating that their records showed that a physician's assistant had performed my surgery, for example, and that it...

I think you look totally hot in the pics you posted... not sure why you're altering your gorgeous face if you don't have bite issues. But since it seems your mind is made up, I wish you best of luck and hope the result leaves you equally attractive.

Hi there-- I had this exact same thing happen about 12 days post-op. If I remember correctly, my surgeon thought it was because I was straining against my bands too much while trying to "talk" and that the sudden onset was a sign of the nerves in this area reawakening. I was driven to taki...

I was tight-banded (which felt like being "wired" for all intents and purposes) for 5 weeks post-op. I used the Z&S bags primarily-- found the syringes too slow and frustrating to eat out of. The Z&S bags are still pretty slow though and a couple weeks post-op I discovered that I h...

I went through this at about 5 weeks post-op (I posted about it here: http://www.archwired.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=25787&highlight= ) It lasted for a couple weeks, and then gradually went away. At times the throbbing got so bad that I was back on the Tylenol with codeine. I also found that a ...

Definitely do not go with someone who makes you this anxious prior to surgery. I switched surgeons at pretty much the last minute. I went to see surgeon #2 on the advice of a friend who had had the procedure, because he was aghast when I told him how rude and unengaged my current surgeon was acting....

Dr. Posnick performed my surgery last March and I seriously cannot rave enough about him or his staff. I had a good point of comparison, too, as I went through the initial evaluation and first two years of my braces in consultation with another surgeon who was totally cold and barely spent 5 minutes...

nomad-- I had upper and lower (lower moved forward), and had the rigid internal fixation with elastics that Meryaten described. I was rubberbanded shut for 5 weeks. Technically I could "talk" during that time, and be understood with difficulty-- the thing that really made me unintelligible...

I am nearly 6 months post-op (wowsers, time flies!) and still have INSANELY dry lips (actually, just my lower lip). I actually thought of posting to see if anyone had any suggestions. I'm going through tons of lip balm. I switched to carmex and that seemed to improve the situation some, but yeah... ...

My skin was horribly broken out after my surgery. Then a couple weeks post-op, my surgeon said something like, "you're not still using that steroid lip cream are you?" and I pulled it out of my pocket and said, "what, this?" He looked horrified and said I was only supposed to use...

So I had the panorex taken, and demonstrated my squeakiness for my orthodontist. The next day I go to my surgeon and for the life of me I can't make the squeak. He looks at the xrays, feels around my face and gumlines a bunch (ouch... still very tender) and says everything looks fine and doesn't kno...

Squeaky noise in my face!

Hey all, I am about 3 1/2 months post-op, and for several weeks now I have noticed an occasional "squeaky" noise when I eat from the area above my upper lip and just below and to the side of my nose. This noise has gotten worse in the last day or so, to the point where my boyfriend can hea...

Hey there, LazyBW. I had upper and lower as well, and had been told that I could resume exercise after 5 weeks. At my 5 week appointment, I asked if that meant I could resume playing soccer (not that I felt AT ALL ready for contact sports) and my surgeon looked horrified and said, "Oh, no! No s...

I also had no nausea, and no puking, but they kept me pumped full of anti-nausea meds in the hospital. I also requested another dose just before leaving the hospital in case I got motion-sick from the car ride home.
