do I need braces?

You sound like me, except I'm older. I finally made the jump and am now realizing I should have done it some time ago, as i can see the uneven wear on my teeth, etc. I am probably going to have to have them leveled off or even veneered when done with braces because of the overbite. And crossbite. My...

comments on braces

I usually bring it up before others do, mostly because I either now lisp and need to repeat things occasionally, or because I demur when it comes time to eat certain things, because I can't. One friend told me that with my braces and hairstyle I just needed to add glasses to look like Ugly Betty. Si...

Spreading teeth....

I'm glad I saw your note. I came here to post a similar question. I got braced in April mainly because I had terribly jammed teeth, with an overbite and very crooked front tooth. I had 4 extractions...now I am starting to notice all sorts of terrible things including that my teeth haven't worn evenl...

Caramel!?

So in other words, when I ate at least 5 bags of caramels the week before getting banded (reasoning that it would be YEARS before I'd taste caramel again)....I didn't need to?!

chewing

I had 4 molars taken out all at once (2 top, 2 bottom) so I know what you mean. I've learned that when I need to chew i either nibble with front teeth or push way back to where there is a molar...

The good part is that I eat more slowly, so I consume less. You get used to it....

Soft foods...

Hey I can relate to your eating issues. My braces went on last week and I am having fun since I had 4 teeth removed too. So any chewing which happens has to go WAY to the back of my mouth! I am doing oatmeal, smoothies, soup and pasta. Last night, enchiladas.... I also found a gargle in the store th...

I have gaps to close too

I had two uppers and two lowers removed in order to be able to straighten my teeth. I was only self-conscious about them for a couple of weeks, once the braces went on that's all you can see! :) I wish the gaps would close because eating is a real @#$@, those were the teeth I used most to chew. Ah w...

It's spring somewhere...

but so far not here in Western Washington. Brrr! It snowed last weekend. Highly unusual. But since I have dogs to walk I have to bear it...it's sort of fun walking these two bigs dogs and flashing a full metal mouth at the people we pass. I'm sort of disappointed that so far no-one has pointed and s...

Hello Eva, I am 59 and 1/2 and just had the wire put on for the top braces today. The bottom ones have been on for 3 weeks and I am starting to adjust. You are not the oldest one.... but I never see any other adults with braces so it is nice to read about some. Lindy I was agonizing over it myself ...

Re: Having second thoughts at 60

I have been reading this forum with great interest. I am 60 years old, and scheduled to have Damon braces put on next week. However, I go between being excited about it to feeling foolish for doing this at such an advanced age! It's a considerable expense, and I have been living with crooked ...

Glad to meet you!

I am 51 and just got my braces on today. I am so happy to find you all! I might have been able to get by without them but...my dentist has for years been urging me to look into them, and she sent me to a good ortho. He told me he's put braces on people in their 80's!

Just Got Mine Today!

And I am 51 years old! UGH. My parents took me to the orthodontist when I was 12, and he was kinda "iffy" as to how badly I needed them. He said "well her mouth is so small I'd have to extract at least 4 teeth", so my parents figured what the heck. But, your teeth shift during yo...
