My consult with Dr. Arnett

Hello. I have commented on here before but this is my first time creating my own post. I had my orthognathic surgery consult with Dr. Arnett in Santa Barbara back in July and thought I'd share a bit about my consult for those that are interested. I had braces as a teenager and while they ...

Hi Kahootz, I recently had a consult with Dr. Arnett and he wants to do upper/lower jaw advancements with an upper lip "VY" reconstruction; is that what Dr. Gunson means? I researched this a bit and it looks like they basically cut the ...

Drs Wolford & Gunson/Arnett

It has been my experience that there are as many opinions as doctors. It's difficult to get a majority opinion, especially when you have a condyle problem. I have condylar resorption and have gotten opinions from leforte and BSSO, sliding genioplasty and joint replacements of the TMJ. Researching th...

Wolford or Gunson/Arnett?

I'm curious, Ryan...how did you narrow it down to these three doctors? I think there needs to be a good working relationship between your surgeon and the ortho, so has the ortho weighed in on the choices? I had my surgery done at Baylor (where Wolford is affiliated) over a decade ago with a surgeon ...

Dr. Wolford & Dr. Gunson/Arnett disagree on my case

... and TMJ. My discs are displaced slightly. Dr. Wolford wants to do a high condylectomy with Mitek anchors, lefort 1, and BSSO. Dr. Gunson/Arnett want to only do orthognathic surgery with segmented lefort, BSSO and also cheek implants. Who do I trust? Who do I believe? Where do I go from ...

Yeah, I keep hearing about those fires in Santa Barbara. I hope they get things under control soon. It would suck if Dr. Arnett has to close up shop for a little while.

I have attached this diagram image from Dr. Arnett's textbook, "Facial and Dental Planning for Orthodontists and Oral Surgeons" to help illustrate where all of these points lie: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3330/3452096358_3f01557147.jpg?v=0 ...
