It seems like all the chatters on this site are from Europe. Is anyone here in the States with me? I live in Chicago and found one of the few orthos that actually does linguals. He's pretty good and he put the bottoms on three wks before the tops so i could get used to them slowly. i've had the bottoms on for about 6 wks and am totally used to them but i'm still lisping a little w/the tops. (i've only had them for a wk and a 1/2). i'm trying to wean myself off of the wax to really get used to all this. my ortho has predicted about 12-14 months w/these - so it makes it a little easier to push through counting the wks down - and then watching them turn into months!!!!!
does anyone have any pictures (befores and afters) that might inspire me!!!!

no - you definitely don't pay more. i really have limited crowding - that's why it won't take very long. no issues w/my bite or anything like that. actually sometimes it amazes me i actually went through w/all this - considering the money and pain b/c my teeth really weren't that bad but i've always wanted perfectly straight teeth so i just bit the bullet and did it.
i do know though that a lot of orthos use different types of linguals and my ortho is a "premier provider" of ibraces in the States. Very few orthos really do them, especially on the tops and the bottoms but he has more patients w/linguals than anyone in the area or for that matter than anyone else i found online. lucky for me he has 4 offices in the chicagoland area (one about 10 min from my house)
but all together my braces will cost approx $11,000 american dollars. i dont know how that compares to you in Sydney.
i do know that linguals were a lot more prevalent in europe, germany specifically before any orthos in the States were doing it. i tried about 7 yrs ago to find an ortho in the states that would do it but at that time very few were available and even if you had them on the backs they had to be put on the fronts for the last 6 months and they took longer.
ibraces are customed designed for the patient's mouth so they actually are the best orthodontics on the market and help move teeth the quickest!

Hi eoconnor..
You mentioned you were from Chicago.. I am also from Chicago and have been looking in to getting braces. iBraces seem like they would work best for me. I have an appointment on Monday to see Dr. Neil Warshawsky. Is that the same dentist you have? If so, how has your experience been with him and ibraces? I'm really worried about the whole situation. Also, what does the $11,000 cover?
Thanks for info..

Yea, someone from Chicago!!!!! Yes, my ortho is Dr. Warshawsky (sp?). i live in Lincoln Park and he's not too far from my home so that's great. The $11K is basically covering everything. i'm on a payment plan. i think i put up like $4K originally and i have a monthly payment. overall, i have been very very happy with him. the first time i met him he spent an hour w/me and went through everything, plus the idea that he had them himself (did he tell you he had them for a yr and 1/2?) made me feel like he would actually truthfully know what i was going through. i am an attorney and speaking is obviously very important to me. i have only had the tops on for 2 wks today
but the btms have been on for about a month and a 1/2. He doesnt put them on at the same time so you can adjust to the bottoms first and then he puts the tops on. the btms were much harder to get used to at first w/eating and stuff b/c they really cut up my tongue but my speech came back to 100% pretty quickly (a couple days really) and by the time i got the tops on i was 100%. like i said i'm only into the first 2 wks of the tops and they were much harder for me to get used to due to the speech impediment. but the more i talk the easier it gets and like i said, its only been 2 wks and i'm really hoping that in a month or so i won't even notice. no one i've been with (outside of the first 2 days - people i work with) have noticed any difference in speech but i notice slightly and that i have to talk slowly which isnt necessarily a bad thing but i have a feeling it will never be 100% - but DEFINITELY worht not have labial (front) braces for sure.
as for the doc, he is the best in chicago, if not one of the best in the STates (i did some serious research on this) - he teaches at University of Chicago in the plastic surgery dept, and he has probably the most experience with ibraces than anyone else i could find.
ck out this link on him

sorry to go so nuts about this but this was a serious life decision for me and i know how scarry/stressful it can be

Thank you so much for the info.. I have also been doing a lot of research on this too (about 8 years worth..lol). I am actually going to his Orland Park office since it's closer to where I live. This is a huge decision for me since I'm 24 and not really into having the metal braces. The ibraces sound perfect though. I am a little concerned about dealing with the speech issues at work but I still think it will be worth it. I am looking forward to meeting him on Monday and getting this started. I heard that it takes a few weeks to get the braces in. Has eating been difficult for you? Hey, it doesn't hurt to lose a few pounds, right?
yea, it takes him about 6 wks or so to actually get the braces and that's from the point he takes your films and sends them out. he does a full CT scan of your head and then has to take a couple molds of your mouth and pictures and stuff. once he has all that he sends it out to have the brackets made and then they call you. my first visit w/him was in september and i didnt actually get them on until the beginning of december! but again, totally worth it. i'm 26 and i totally can relate. btw, i grew up in Evergreen Park so i'm also an original south sider
where did you go to high school? i went to McAuley.
oh and i think i'm the only person in the world who didnt lose any weight from braces - i found a way to eat. it was weird for the first couple days but now i pretty much eat everything - just slowly and i cut everything up - its hard to bite into things w/your front teeth

Yeah it does take a while from ur 1st consultation and at the beginning you can't wait to get them on and time feels like it's going so slowly.. but once they r on time will fly and before u know it it's ur 1st adjustment and then 2nd, 3rd.. and you will say to urself this is not bad at all and u wish u had done this earlier... well i do
im 23 and i've always been told that i need braces, due to my bad bite...but ive never been interested...but because Linguals came out that's when i actually thought about it further...and here i am...
