My tongue hurt for two weeks, then it settled down. Good that you had a go at chewing stuff, you will find this easier the more you do it.
Try and reading stuff aloud to work on your lisp.

Hi Koksy,
sorry that things are a bit tough for you at the moment. I found that things were probably worst on about day 3 or so and steadily got a bit better, but sudden improvement happened over the weekend when you get a chance to have a good rest!
Hope this works for you. In the begining I also wore wax just about everywhere at night. That gives your tongue a good rest - also I really do believe the salt water rinses and drinking heaps of water make a huge difference.
Hope to hear things are going better for you soon..

Well I had my screw fitted today in my gum. Ortho said it wouldn't hurt but he lied!!! I don't want that doing again. If he'd said it may hurt a bit i might have been prepared for it... but i wasn't expecing any pain so maybe thats why it hurt more. I can still feel it now 12 hours later. It's just uncomfotable now though like somebody is poking something in my gum.

Hey,
Not sure about that screw thing sounds pretty nasty though poor you. Saw your post about finally starting chewing and tearing up your tongue, ow, I remember that but really you have to go through it to toughen up the tongue and gums etc. Its a bit masachistic but I tried to use as little wax as possible to toughen up as quick as possible and this seemed to work well. My friend has normal braces and used the same philosophy to good effect.
Buy some 'brace-eze' its 100% better than wax for linguals as it sticks and you can eat with it in. You can buy it online at http://www.orthoshop.co.uk thats the only place I have managed to get it from here in the uk. Careful with it though near that screw, when you do finally pull it off its not easy and goes quite hard, sometimes i'm amazed it doesnt take my brackets or powerchain with it but so far that has never happened.
Best of luck, soon enough you'll be tucking into burgers again! Honestly, 8 months on the only things I really avoid are crusty french bread, popcorn and chewing gum! LL
