Bottom Linguals or Ceramics?

#1 Post by tampabay »

I finally found an ortho who was just certified in ibraces, I will be his first patient. I met with him yesterday and he suggested ceramics on the bottom and linguals on the top. He said I would have better results with the ceramics on the bottom but that it's ultimately my decision. After reading a lot of postings I'm really leaning towards linguals on the bottom and top. He did state if I went that route we could always put ceramics on the bottom at the end of my treatment if I wasn't happy with the lingual results. So I've pretty much made up my mind, I guess I'm just looking for reassurance from anyone else who had to make this decision and was glad they did or vice versa.

You'll find as many people here who have gone with lingual/ceramics or fully lingual, and are happy with their choices. I'm one of the former and am quite happy with my choice.

I'm not sure why ceramics on the bottom would give you better results and maybe this is something you should inquire about further.

If you've made up your mind, however, go with your gut instinct and it will most likely work for you.

Yes meeee, i was thinking for ceramics/linguals on bottom but i went fully lingual all over and i'm happy.. They say that u can hardly see ur bottom teeth wen u talk, smile etc.. but that's not true for me... my bottoms show just as much as my top teeth.. which is why i chose linguals for top and bottom.. cheeerz

Hi,

I too was wondering which way to go. After having the uppers fitted, i was worried about the lowers being a bit too much metal in my mouth. However I went with the lower linguals and have been very happy with them, if anything they're more comfortable than the uppers!

I would however talk to your ortho about this... if he/she prefers using ceramics then you should at least understand why.

Hope this helps! And good luck with your decision.. as Lionfish says, It seems that pretty much everyone is happy with their decision once they've made it and gone ahead. I know from my experience, the decisions and worrying before going on this journey have so far been much worse than actually doing it!

Thanks for all the feedback! I'm fairly certain I'm going to stick to the linguals on the bottom. From what I'm reading most people seem to find the linguals more comfortable once you've adjusted to them. I'm not sure but I get the impression that my ortho is leary about the linguals on the bottom because he has never done them before. He did say if needed at the end of treatment he could put ceramics on the lowers to correct anything additional that wasn't fixed by the linguals. I think I'm going to take my chances, thanks again!
