One week to go..
So after my Ortho consult back in October I am finally getting my ibraces on in a week! I have to say I'm having mixed emotions, I'm really looking forward to finally getting this process started but some of the posts I've been reading about the first ten days of pain have me a bit nervous...I'm hoping everyone is exaggerating just a little bit. I do have happen to have some pain pills left over from my extractions (I had 8 out - 4 wisdom - in January) so maybe it will not be so bad after all! Thank you guys for all of your helpful posts, I'm sure I'll be needing more of that once the braces go on!
Hi juniperlee,
The mixed emotions you're currently feeling are quite understandable. I think most of us had the butterflies in the days leading up to the 'big event'. I know that I didn't sleep a wink the night before.
I'm not a whiner and I don't want to scare you, but you will most likely experience some discomfort during the first week or two. For me, this discomfort was more about my tongue getting a beating from the brackets than teeth moving. The good news is that you will get use to, and over it.
Good luck for next week and keep us posted.

so i've had my linguals on for about 24 hours now and I was ready to take them off about 23 hours ago. Did anyone else's start hurting right away cause most of what i've read say they ususally want to rip them off on day 3 and its only been 1 day for me and I already want to. I just want to make sure they're not on wrong or something..my appointment did take 3 hours and the assistant seemed like she was having some trouble. I never realized how much I talk during the day or how many words have a s or x in them. I hate those words. also, when I made my next appointment I was told it would be with the other ortho who works there that I haven't even met yet. Does this even matter because it seems to me like I would get the best results with my ortho who knows my case and made the treatment plan.
I think people who get both arches done at the same time are very brave indeed. I started with uppers only and was grateful to have had 8 weeks in which to adjust to that before getting my lowers.
I felt pressure immediately, but have never felt pain. Yes, words with 's' and 'x' in them require a bit of effort to sound normal, but it can be done. Just keep talking.
I guess I'm one of the lucky ones, because I've never wanted to rip them off. I just want them to do their job and when you start seeing results - sometimes as early as a few days in - it makes it a lot easier to tolerate.
3 hours to band both arches with linguals doesn't sound too drastic. It took 1.5 hours just to do my uppers.
As far as the two ortho situation is concerned, the other ortho will most likely read the notes on your chart before going to work on you. If you are concerned about this, however, do discuss it with the ortho who drew up your treatment plan.
Stick with it, it does get better.

Hi Juniperlee!
Do not worry to much.... I wanted to ripe the lingual braces off after short time as I talk a lot in my job as a ER-nurse, but you suddenly notice that words come clearer and better after a short time
I feel with you though....
I only have my uppers, my lower ceramics won`t go on before the end of my treatment.
But know this - I feel so good about myself for doing this! It is a challenge, but so absolutly worth it!!!
Good luck with everything!!!

So the day after braces were put on my ortho called to check on me (how sweet) and when I told him I pretty much wanted to cut out my tongue just for the chance that it might feel better he told me I could come in to see if there was any thing he could do to help. As it turns out the wire came out of the back two brackets on the bottom some how and that was what was killing me. So I wasn't just being a baby afterall and yay I feel so much better! I also have already started eating for real food though that's mainly because I had a very strong determination to do so..I love food and I love to eat and nothing is going to take that away from me, plus it always seems like whenever you can't eat that well that's when your surrounded by really good irresistible food. So now all that's left for me to tackle is my lisp which has been getting me made fun of like crazy at work. I work with kids, and man are they brutal. The other day we had a carnival so I had to work until 9 instead of my usual 6 and I've learned that usually about 8 my lisp turns into a slur from my tongue being so tired. My boss' boss was there and didn't know about my braces and pulled me aside to ask if I was drunk. haha. nope only braces, and she was so amazed at them once I showed them to her that she kept going around telling people to make me open my mouth so they could see to. If I would have thought about it I would have charged $ so I could actually pay for these things.
Glad you had the loose wire sorted, juniperlee.
I'm like you, I love my food and am determined to eat as I always ever did. I understand what you mean about the lisp getting more pronounced later at night; I have found this happens to me sometimes too and I think it's just fatigue.
That's a scream about your boss wanting you to show everyone your braces. No-one has ever asked to see mine
