Adjustments & elastics- what can I expect?

#1 Post by momoftwins »

Hi, I have had my Ibraces on for over one month now and do not have my first adjustment scheduled until the end of January. At that time, they are also going to put an elastic in to start pulling forward a tooth. What can I expect timewise and pain-wise? I am finally used to the braces. I have noticed that one of my front teeth is not straight anymore. I wasn't happy about this but I assume when all is said and done, all my teeth will be nice and straight. I have heard that you can usually notice a big difference by the 6th month. Is this true in most instances? -Mary

Elastics may hurt for a little while, but you will get used to the pressure very quickly. Keep some painkillers handy in case. As to what your ortho will do at your first adjustment - that can vary from very little to a lot.

Things can get worse before they get better. I remember that at 6 months, only two of my teeth actually made contact. It will be different for everyone, though.
