#1 Post by nik929 »

Hi Guys,

So my linguals are FINALLY ready for me.. but its close to my birthday.. they said they need about an hr and half to get them in. its the lower teeth only... can i plan on going to work the same day or should i plan a day off? also, my bday is coming at the end of the month and i want to be able to hang out socialize, go out to dinner.. r..

Should I just wait till the beginning of october to get them in?

Thanks

If it's not too much of a hassle to take the rest of that day off, I think you should go for it. I was pretty uncomfortable my first day in linguals (not saying I was incapacitated or anything, but it was definitely a good thing for me to have a day to try to practice talking and such, and just to get used to how they felt).

As for your birthday, I think you will be okay to celebrate. My experience was that I kept finding reasons to postpone the brace-day appointment, until finally I just had to put my foot down with myself and say "enough! Let's get it done already!" Plus, since it's only lowers, I think the adjustment period will be shorter, at least in terms of your speech.

It's common to find reasons to procrastinate - I tried this too!

You'll be fine to go back to work on the same day if you wish. I did, no dramas. As for birthday celebrations, that should be OK too.

The best advice I can give you is to carry on life as normal and not let the braces interfere with it.

Hi there-well--I was FINE the first day, but days 4-8 were horrible. Your tongue is going to get all cut up, and you will talk funny-but that goes away in about a week. (I still have to get my uppers on and am nervous about my speech)..my problem was that my tongue was getting all cut up, and my teeth were just sore, but nothing that motrin won't help. I would definitely take that day off of work-it is just so weird how they feel in your mouth. Question--are you getting ibraces? That is what I have...You will be FINE by your birthday--I suggest getting LOTS of wax and using it--and salt water rinses to help your mouth. Your mouth doesn't know what has hit it with all this stuff in your mouth. I have had my lowers on for 2 months and I am so used to them and my speech is totally fine. Are you getting uppers ever or just need the bottoms?? :?:
Good luck and let us know how you make out!
