All,
Had my uppers put on last august and about 10 weeks later had the lowers put on. Whilst at first, there was a fair bit of movement on the top row - gentle alignment amongst the crowded front row, and also overall everything shifting back a bit - only reason i could tell was that i used to have to forcibly tuck my front teeth behind my lower row, and now they sit behind easily if i just extend my lower jaw - not very scientific, i know, but a measure that things are moving.
Prior to the lowers going one, i had a pre-molar extracted with a view to shifting everything back properly, but since the 3rd upper adjustment, i really can't notice that anything has moved on the top row. Bottom row has definitely alligned, but nothing obvious on the top. Ortho said 4 months ago that everything would be alligned within 6 months, and it was then just a question of shifting everything back, but that now really doesn't look likely.
I've always wondered before about how much pressure there is after adjustments, but i honestly can't feel anything after a few days, and i can't help but think nothing is moving, aggravated by the fact that my previous appointment was 8 weeks apart, followed by another 8 week wait i'm currently sitting through (his holidays)... I know i'm being impatient, but this is just frustrating me... Even on the false tooth that was put over my gap, which was shaved down last visit (4 weeks ago) - the gap he created doesn't seem to have reduced...
Maybe i rambled a bit, but any thoughts?
My teeth seemed to have stopped moving?

I think a lot of people think the same thing, I think you will notice all of a sudden a lot of movement - it can be very subtle even after adjustments. Then one day you'll look and think.. wow, they've moved!
Definitely nothing to worry about.
Can I ask what brand of linguals you have? And how you found them, speech wise etc?

Thanks for your response xTc. Maybe you're right and I guess impatience kicks in - the top row is where the work needs to be done, and it's just frustrating that nothing much seems to have happened since November, at which point i was really shocked at how quickly things were starting to move. Bottom row, which doesn't have major issues, appears to be making more progress, funnily enough!
Re brands, not sure to be honest. Mine were fitted in London (if that's likely to indicate one brand over another(?). Yes, had speach issues for first 10 days (not so much at first, but got worse after a few days). After 5 days was less obvious, and a few weeks later completely gone. Lowers started it all off again, but more subtley, and it went again in about the same amount of time - i was probably more sensitive to hearing it, but whether other people were i don't know. No-one ever commented about my speech at any stage.
Cheers,
BB

Ah, I had braces as a teenager, my teeth moved since then (So make sure you wear retainers!). I am due to get incognito (iBraces) on the upper arch and ceramic on the lower.billybob wrote:Thanks for your response xTc. It's good to hear that you got over the speech issues pretty easily, how much did your linguals cost? This would probably be a better indication of brand, incognitos cost a lot more than other brands.
I know I seem obsessive about brand but did yours look like this? Would you say you're now 'used' to them?

Re: To xTc
I have decided like 90% haha.. I told my ortho I wanted upper incognito and lower ceramic, I just have to wait for him to speak to my dentist, then pay the deposit..dorag wrote:Hi xTc,
so you decided to get Incognito after all? When are you getting them?
How long do they take to make?
Cost about GBP 7,000 for upper and lower linguals. Yes, really don't think of them at all these days - speech is fine, unless tongue gets very sore, or some food (certain soft breads etc) gets stuck behind the brackets and can create a lisp - very infrequent, and easily avoided. Best of luck! Once you're used to them, you'll forget they're there (although that will seem extremely unlikely when you first get them!)xTc wrote:Ah, I had braces as a teenager, my teeth moved since then (So make sure you wear retainers!).
