hello, i'm 23 years old male. I just got Ibraces on top teeth yesterday and will get lower regular braces in about 6 weeks. I'm feeling a little depressed because i cannot eat anything. I love going to the gym but i'm afraid if i dont eat correct i might just lose it. The doc has put some king of glue on the bottom teeth so that they dont connect with the braces which makes it difficult to chew.
CAN SOMEONE PLEASE POST SOME SUGGESTIONS ON WHAT I CAN DO AND HOW TO DEAL WITH LIFE AND HOW LONG DOES IT USUALLY TAKE TO GET USE TO THEM AND WILL I BE ABLE TO EAT LIKE I WANT TO AGAIN. THANKS.
Just got IBRACES. Need HELP!

Well done for getting going through with it, you won't regret this.
I think your eating is going to be near normal within a week or so. I was worried initially re weight loss, and just being hungry at work so I bought build up milk shakes, and used full fat milk. That and banana and peanut butter blended with milk to make smooties. I also find pasta an easy option if I have sore teeth, they day after adjustments etc. But that said this phase only lasted a week or so, I think you will get used to them quickly, you kind of learn to eat what you want when your teeth are sore / with build ups, and within a month I had pretty much forgotten about it.
I found plently of wax and salt water rinses great for protecting my tongue.
Hope you see lots of movement quickly.

Hang in there. It takes time to get used to everything. I lost 10lbs because I just hated eating when I got my top band on and had the same material applied to my teeth to prevent my bottom teeth from hitting the top bracket.. But after a three weeks, I'm back to eating just about anything now.
Stick with soft foods - soups, tuna fish sandwiches, chili, etc. Your teeth will stop hurting in a week or so and you will start to eat more solid foods.
Tough it out is all I can say. Just takes time.

Use as much dental wax as you need. At DentaKit.com, there is a product called BraceGuard Kit where you can make a custom guard. It also might help with your eating, although I'm not sure if it would be too awkward on the top teeth. Silicone wax stays on longer than regular wax, but your brackets have to be totally dry for it to stick and some people have difficulty getting the hang of it.
Warm salt water rinses several times per day are a good idea. If your tongue gets too cut up, try Rincinol PRN mouth rinse (available in most drug stores).
On the main ArchWired.com site there are a few pages with soft food suggestions: http://www.archwired.com/soft_foods.htm
If you can't chew at all, I also suggest high-protein shakes, and be sure to take your vitamins regularly. If you don't want to make your own protein shakes from scratch, the people at a place like GNC might have some suggestions, or the trainers at your gym could help.

hope you feel better after 10 days with ibraces. here is a link to a list of food I ate during the first two weeks I had my ibraces. I would also recommend taking some painkiller about 30 minutes before meal to help you cope with the pain when you chew. That will help you eat enough food.

I did not use any wax to cover the brackets and wires. I toughed it out and after two weeks my tongue has adapted to the brackets and wires. I did use pain killer to help me eat.
I don't know what you mean by glue on the bottom teeth. do you mean the glue your ortho used to bond the brackets to your teeth? If that is the case you can try using a dental pik to scrap it off the tooth.
You will want to have a dental pik anyway to help clean your teeth. Besides brushing your teeth you absolutely need to floss. Common suggestions are oral b superfloss, and bryton pick. I think oral b superfloss is best. bryton pick is just a pick, can't really replace floss.
