Hi Nak,

I've had mine for 9 days now, my teeth were sore for about 3-4 days, they have only really resorted back to how they normally are over the past couple of days. You should be fine soon.

Regarding speech, I was fine almost immediately, slightly lispy on some words for about 5-6 days and now I'd say I'm 99% back to normal.

Just stick it out for a few more days and it should be fine, good luck!

Hi Nak, Ive had mine on for 6 days now (stb uppers only at mo). Its so interesting reading everyones posts as everyone has different initial experiences. I have the same glue build ups on my molars to stop my bottom teeth crashing down on the brackets. Arghhh, how annoying is it! Totally understand, I love my food, and am naturally very slim so am really worried about losing weight. Ok so I think as rubbish as it is we just have to accept that these evil things will be on our teeth for the foreseeable future. Once I had come to terms with that I forced myself into developing a technique that enable me to eat a wider variety of food, I'm one of those who has never really been a big fan of soup, I see it more as a starter rather than a full on meal. So I cut everything up really small, mush it round my mouth using my one glue stump to chew where I can, and swallow the larger pieces. I feel like a 1 year old kid! My speech is quite dire, which I am very self conscious of, but it has improved slightly, and I am trying to tell myself to stay positive as things are only going to get better.

I don't feel any pressure now when I eat. I am eating 99% the same as before, yesterday I had steak, some huge sandwiches for dinners, loads of different stuff. I made an effort to try and eat normal, no matter how weird it felt. It feels at first like the brace will snap or your teeth will break, but trust me they won't. Theres no reason why you can't eat as normal, just be a bit more careful when biting into things and tearing food as you don't want to be too rough.

My speech is now 99.9%, I just saw a few of my very good mates who I've known for years, played football where my mouth became very dry and still nobody noticed anything.

I'm definitely lucky because people have worse experiences, but I think preparing myself mentally really helped. I hope you find it easier as I am loving my braces at the moment.
