Getting them off. Please let me know what you all think....

#1 Post by ShySmile »

Hi Everyone,

Haven't visted in over a year! My story is in here somewhere in Braces Stories. Cut a long story short, have had upper lingual and lower ceramics for just over 2.5 years.

Am getting them off in 5 days. I am not 100% happy. Oh dammit I just realised I dont have my photos with me! When i get home I will post a few photos of what my upper teeth look like currently. I would really really appreciate if anyone could just make a quick comment (postive and negative welcome) to let me know what you think about my upper lingual getting taken off. Lower ceramics are staying on for another few weeks.

Huge imporvement from what my digusting teeth looked like before but there are a few things bugging me, and I payed through my teeth (nice pun) for these things!! My ortho is very inconsistent, telling me 1st that if there are any teeth I dont like he can tweak them and ove them around, to saying to me last week that I should be "grateful" for what I have and that I am striving for perfection ( I dont think i am) He is quite closed off, and he makes me feel as though i am annoying him with my questions :(

He has also said that there is a limit to what lingual braces can achieve? I take it that the results are not as good as the traditional front of the teeth braces? Appreciate any feedback and i'll get those photos up tonight. I find people on here more informative and friendlier than my own ortho! :P

(A little unrealated but would love if someone could recommend a webite either in Australia or that ships here, to purchase Crest White Strips) Dont want to buy on Ebay as I heard there are alot of fake Strips being sold)

Hi. Being new to this I haven't any advice to offer I'm afraid. My ortho has always stressed that the traditional 2 year type braces will always be the gold standard and that we may not achieve the perfect smile with linguals (however after the hefty investment I kind of have this expectation anyway!!). My treatment time is only 20-24 weeks so its scary to hear of people disappointed after having them for so long. I'm on day 10 now but I've just taken photos and I'm not sure if I'm trying to convince myself but I think I can see movement already?! Look forward to seeing your pics. Good luck. I hope it all works out and feels worth it in the end.

Thank you for your reply. I noticed movement in the first 2 weeks. I had bad crowding and a tilted front tooth, I am sure you only have minor straightening if you only require them for such a short time. Don't be discouraged, I am happy with all the progress I have made, just not 100%. I'll try get those photos up now.

ok so please bear with me as I stumble over how to explain this without correct terminology.

* My chipped front tooth is tilted. My ortho has told me that although he can straighten this tooth he cannot do anything about the tilt (because I opted to have lingual) Is tis true??....Chip will be fixed later on.
* Lateral Incisor and Canine on the right look nothing like the left hand side
* Back molar on the left are hidden creating a "black hole" when I smile
* Midline is off (does this matter?)
* if you look at the photo I took from inside of my mouth, my teeth look pretty straight, but viewing my teeth from the front is a different story :(

He said he will a little bit of sanding back of teeth that are long or slightly chipped etc...but my main concern is that horrid front tooth. There is also some other little uneven areas tht the camera did not pick up.

I honestly believe that these teeth are not straight. Has anyone had any similar experiences with linguals. I was never told that linguals couldn't give me a perfectly straight result. I don't know what to do, I am getting them off in 5 days, and im pretty upset. I paid $16k for these in Sydney. My sister in law is a dental nurse and although she is no expert, she told me to get my ortho to put ceramic braces on the front if I am not 100% happy with my result.

PLEASE ANYONE HELP! posted the photos again...I think that worked better

I honestly think they look good. I studied them for ages trying to work out what was bugging you about them but couldn't. So that's the untrained eye's view! Lets see what others think. I hope you are happier when you do get them off.

I'd be really happy with those teeth. They look awesome to me.

I think you're focusing on things related to the actual shape of the teeth, not the straightness of the teeth. Maybe if you get that chip straightened out, you'll see that things line up nicely.

I've never heard that linguals CAN'T do something regular braces can.

Good luck!

Thank you for everyones comments. I went to see a local ortho near my home. He says there are minor things that could be changed given the fact that I have paid so much, and also he thinks my bite is off. I am going to ask what he thinks about having ceramics on for a few weeks or months.....whatever it takes. I really don't think the photos are showing what I am seeing. Ive asks friends, family and co workers....everyone agrees. (even without hearing my sob story first!)

HI Shy....I do not have my braces yet...so not sure if my advice is correct or not.
I also have been looking at your pictures. The only thing I can see what I would want fixed is the chip. I also have a very similar chip on my front tooth and I was told that will be taken care of.
Other then that...I think your teeth look nice.
With that being said.....They are YOUR teeth...and you paid alot of money. If wearing metal braces for a few months would take care of what you consider problem areas.....I would do that if it were me. I would hate to go through all this time and money...and every time I would look in the mirror and not be happy with my teeth...You need to do what is right for you.
