Hi my name is Velvet I just got top and bottom Linguals today. I have been reading this board for a few weeks now...and Some of you all scared me. It really isn't that bad, but maybe because its only day one. The worst part of the braces being put on was that stupid plastic thing that kept ur tongue down and cheeks apart. My ortho isnt too gently so maybe thats why. It feels like the brackets are on the roof of my mouth lol. I am really excited though to see how everything turns out. Can anyone tell me how long it took before the teeth started to straighten? Well everybody...Thanks for the support and warnings..I'll be on here often. Anyone can email me @

Welcome, cheese.
The lip/cheek and tongue retractors are some of the less pleasant devices used in treatment. Fortunately, they're not used that often.
The first changes you may notice are when you floss. This can happen within days.
Good luck and keep us posted.

Congrats Cheese for getting braces!
I had quite big problems but I have seen changes very soon, and after 2-3 months I saw significant changes.
I got used to the braces after 3 weeks, after this time I didn't have to use wax only sometimes.
Should you have any questions please feel free to ask.
Good luck for your journey!

Yeh that's true about getting worse, i got a tiny gap between my top 2 front teeth which i did not have b4...it wasn't noticeable from afar, but if someone were to look at ur teeth from up close they could definately notice it. I had it for about 2 weeks and i told my ortho to fix it up, and within a day the gap disappeared.. i used to put wax behind my teeth to hide the gap.. it worked... but i hate putting the wax on my teeth wenever i try to take it off i feel like vomitting.. ah i hate that feeling....so yeah...ul be right
