Its done, I'm braced!

#1 Post by itsjustme »

Was in and out of the office in under an hour and a half. No pain while they were being put in, just the annoyance of having my mouth wide open for so long! I only have the upper i-braces in for the next 8 weeks, then the lowers.

There is a bit of discomfort and pressure on my teeth now, but nothing too major, yet. I'm starting to wonder if my ortho just pretended to put the braces in, or what because my lisp is minimal and barely noticeable, and I can't imagine these things hurting my tongue. Am I in for a rude awakening in the nex few days? Hopefully it doesn't get more painful on my tongue, but I still want these things to be working and moving those teeth! Oh and I just ate lunch, it took me forever as none of my top teeth touch the bottom ones when I bite down. And I am paranoid about snapping off on of the brackets.

Thanks to everyone who has previously replied to my questions, the support helped me feel better about my decision.
:D

Congrats!!!!

It is so good that you dont have any lisp, and that your tongue isnt bothered to much!!

I had a lisp for about 1 week, and my tongue still hurts sometimes (espesially after a night out...), but nothing a little wax cant help.

I have had no regrets about this journey and hope that you do not either :D

Good luck with everything!!

Congratulations on starting your journey.

I found that my tongue started to hurt around day 3. So keep the wax handy, you may need it. The irritation didn't last long for me, though - about 2 weeks and then my tongue settled down.

OK so I lied. Today, my tongue is so raw and painful, and my teeth are really sore. Yikes, you guys weren't kidding about how painful it could be. I finally broke down and put some wax in there, but I apparently don't have the right technique, because the pieces keep coming out.

Sorry to hear your tongue is sore, I remember how unpleasant this was.

Try making a 'sausage' with a strip of wax - say an inch long, lay it across the brackets and press firmly into place. Cover all the brackets if necessary. To get it to stick, make sure that your mouth (and everything in it) is as dry as possible.

I would also avoid acidic or sharp tasting foods for a while e.g. tomatoes, lemons.
