After 8 months in a crozet removable thingy I got my uppers put on last Friday, just thought i'd post a few lines explaining my experience thus far as you lot were helpful to me in the lead up, feel free to ask any questions....

They went on very easy, the Ortho is very professional, a bit of apprehension led to relief as it really does not hurt one bit.

When they are on at first they feel odd (as they would) and you find your tongue exploring it all even when you know it shouldn't be...

Day 1 was OK, the thing I was most worried about ws the speech, I came home and spoke to my girlfriend normally thank goodness. She couldn't even tell I had anything in......Now I'm not sure this would have been the csae if I hadn't been wearing the Crozet for a few months, truth is I had a bit of a lisp with that but I worked hard and corrected it. I think that is why I can speak properly now...

Next thing was the eating, on Fri lunch I had soup and bread and it was fine (although get ready to use Listerine like you never have had to before kids) then for dinner we went out for a curry and guess what it was fine too, a little, shall we say, different but fine and I ate it all...

Sat morn was scrambled eggs and beans on toast (a perfect meal for linguals I reckon!) then for dinner last night cooked Tom Yum soup and sticky rice and was fine, so food wise I'm OK! yay.....

Did have to take some Ibuprofen yesterday as the teeth hurt and ached (was prepared for this)

So this morning have had bananas on toast and was fine, have just had to put my very first bit of wax on left furthest back tooth as it was hurting my tongue......

I'll update but so far so good thanks GOD I can talk properly.

It sounds as though you've got the speech thing taped and can eat fine. That's great news.

Hey- just joined. I'm having my linguals put in on Tuesday. Having second thoughts but I guess since I already paid the $1,800 (U.S.) downpayment it's too late to turn back now. I have an estimated 9 month treatment time and was wondering how many of you went over your initial sentence? If the worse of it is being unable to eat normally that's not so bad- I could stand to lose a couple or 10 pounds I'm more worried about my tongue being torn to shreds like I've heard can happen. I'm getting the ibraces. Will let everyone know how my first few days go- pretty sure I'll be living on painkillers!

I had roast beef for lunch, langers, and it was pretty good, especially washed down with the old red wine. Love roast lamb too.

Clare, I was given an 18 month estimate which expired this month. I will go another few months which, given the scale of what had to be fixed, is still OK. A nine month estimate is a breeze compared to what most of us here have.

Use wax liberally in the initial phase to deal with tongue abrasion. Warm salt water rinses will also help. This will sort itself out after a few weeks.

Mine aren't on yet, but I was given an estimate or 11-14 months which came as a pleasant surprise. I don't think I am by any means "severe", but I was very happy to find out I would be 99% complete in under a year. I love to read other people's Lingual stories!!

Yep mines about that time too, not too bad.....I'm only three days in now but apart from the odd prong when I talk I can hardly feel em now and talking perfectly fine, well worth the extra dosh in my opinion!!

Clare- I went for 11 months my ortho told me about 1 year and I was 1 month early. Here's the weird thing about linguals. For me, after about 9 months I really didn't mind having linguals. You really do get used to having the appliance on the backside of your teeth. And I became more interested in my ortho getting everything correct instead of how soon he could take them off. Once you get used to them and no one knows your wearing braces.....getting them off quickly becomes second to a great bite and smile. Again, that was my experience. Good luck.

Agree, day 4 and I'm off the wax now and alls fine...Reckon I'll forget about the silly things in a week or so...Only time I really notice is when I eat, carefully!!!

Just a quick update, two weeks in and I can hardly feel them. Can speak freely and clearly at work and eating is completely back to normal. Loving it. highly reccommended.

Yep. Easy peasy so far.....I just have to eat a bit more deliberately than I have had too before which is no bad thing cos I am a PIG ahahahaha

Update: I've had them in for about 5 weeks and it's great!! The odd lisp (which my boyfriend says only I notice) and the odd poke, but besides that I'm completely used to them and hardly notice they are there. I've only had one tightening and my teeth were a little tender for 3 days or so- the first day I couldn't even bite into a banana- I had to mush it up in yogurt BUT one week later and I'm eating everything as per normal. And I'm already noticing that my gaps are closing in. All in all I am very happy with them and would recommend it if anyone asked. (Granted I have about 8 months to go )
