Hey guys, today I got my braces tightened. All went as normal, but tonight I looked at my teeth in the mirror and noticed a wide gap between my two front teeth that definitely was not there before. Is this something I should be worried about? Should I be phoning my ortho, or is this normal? It's looking like Madonna's teeth! I dont like it at all. I dont understad how a gap could have formed in such a short space of time. I am due to get extractions - two bicuspids on the top set - but not before they are straight, afterwhich they will all be retracted back over the extraction gaps. I really dont wanna be left with this gap :(

Don't panic, gaps come and go.

At one point I had a gap develop between my front teeth to the extent that I could see the wire behind them. It was closed later on.

Gaps-

I have not experienced gaps yet in my top teeth- though not sure if there is any room for a gap to appear-
I have however noticed that food gets stuck in places that in never used to- does this mean I might experience gaps.....

getting worried now?

Thanks Lionfish. The one positive thing is that at least I dont need to floss in between those teeth now. If I did I might need to use a piece of rope!!! I feel I should have been warned about this huge gap. Amazing how it just appeared in a matter of hours!

Hi loopyloo, I had a gap appear between 2 of my bottom front teeth. My ortho put a permanent elastic across the back of all of my bottom front teeth attached to each bracket. Not only did it pull the teeth back together, but it made the brackets for more comfortable on the tongue!

Thanks Koksy. Im really not keen on this gappy look, but im gonna live with it till my next tightening at least, hopefully then my ortho will be closing it anyway. I was just amazed at the speed with which the gap appeared. It was literally hours!!

Gaps DEFINITELY come and go. I'm getting mine off in a couple of weeks and had many gaps during different phases....
