Starting on Friday!!!

Been wanting to do this for a million years and at last its about to happen. Just confirmed with MY ortho (so weird that I have my own now), that Friday at 8h30 they go on (in) top and bottom! No need for separators.

Doing it on Friday before the weekend so I can get used to talking but may have to go to work after they are done. Maybe I'll suck a mint all day as an excuse for the speech impediment or will it be too sore?

Not sure whether to be excited or freaked out!

Plan a very chilled weekend! As well as all the issues mentioned in other posts, I found that I was absolutely shattered and slept much more than usual during the first few days.

Good Luck!
The first couple of weeks is tough but you will get through it. There's all sorts of advice here that will help you out. I am "nearing" the end of my treatment and while I have been frustrated at times (right now I have a pokey wire) I'm sure it is worth it. I waited a long time to do this so I know how you feel.

Good luck and hang in there. It will be great when you have a beautiful smile!

so excited for you. As you can read all our posts, first few days suck. Badly. But you will get through. Every adjustment is a new adventure. My teeth were overlaping, felt like Nanny McPhee or wire was hurting me. Always something. Keeps it interesting, at least I have to look at it this way now.

Less than 24 Hours...........

Can't believe that in less than 24 hours I'll have braces... and have to attend two meetings straight after!!! Should I wax them up straight away or wait and see if I ned wax to talk better?

I was not too bad the first couple of hours afterwards but I ony had the top fitted not both at the same time.

It is day 2, 3 and 4 are the worst due to your tongue being cut up by the wires so yes definitely wax as this helps but it does take some time to get use to putting the wax on. I was given the Silicone wax which needs to go on dry brackets and wire and found that by wetting my finger and drying the bracket before I put the wax on helped as the wax then stuck to the bracket rather than my finger.

I stuck to soup and smoothies for the first few days so by day 5 I think i was also suffering from the lack of food so would advise to eat something other than soup - scrambled eggs, baked beans and mash potato all go down well and I wished I had tried these in the first few days as I might not have felt so bad. I am on day 10 and feel so much better now.

Good luck for tomorrow !!

So here we go…

The time came and I sat down in the chair and everything was opposite of anything I ever imagined or prepared for from this site and the net. The prep of the teeth was fine. Never tasted the bitter stuff. Maybe because my mouth was so dry.No face stretcher, only cotton but then……

…… he put on the most vicious brackets top and bottom you have ever seen. They are the same ones my friends had on the front of their teeth in 1983. They are called Begg, I think, and attach with these little pins. They are pokey and prickly and not at all smooth like the Stb’s I saw on the net and on the Ortho’s model that he showed me at the consult. He then filed between my teeth to make space and I got splashed and smelled smoke.

He only put on the front eight teeth top and bottom and wired them in and sent me on my way. Wow was it sharp. I had to go straight to a meeting and so piled on copious amount of wax and apologized for my speech with a slurpy “ekthkutheâ€
