my main reason for getting braces is to fix bite and TMJ problems. The first ortho I went to didn't do ibraces so I had a consultation with one that does. This second ortho seemed to think that everything could be fixed with lingual so I had planned to go ahead with that. Then I called the first ortho and left a message saying thank you but I decided to go with ibraces. He actually called me back and said he felt obligated to tell me that he thought ibraces would address my cosmetic issues but definitely NOT fix my bite the way I needed it to. I don't know which one to believe!

Has anyone fixed bite problems/TMJ with lingual?

My bite has definitely improved with ibraces. Prior to ibraces, my top front teeth were hitting my bottom teeth, resulting in gradual wearing, especially for the upper two front teeth. Nine months in, they longer touch the bottom teeth.

My ortho routinely uses IBraces (well Incognito as they are in Europe) for anything regular braces can achieve. He has treated other dentists and orthodontists to me this was a good indicator that he knows what he's doing. Before I booked a consultation, his nurse told me she has never known anyone have a problem he could not treat with IBraces.

I've read on the board that sometimes elastics are needed to correct bite issues, which I think would be the case whatever kind of braces you choose, althought the Incognito advertising says the system reduces the need for this (but doesn't eliminate it). It might not apply to you, but worth discussing with your ortho. The computer aided design aspect of IBraces often give more efficient movement, so you would think logically that would benefit your case. So not only would tooth movements required be assessed by your own ortho, but also by the lab. They just wouldn't get away with charging so much if the system didn't work.

There are lingual systems that only address the front six teeth and don't allow certain movements of teeth, so I guess that would only fix limited problems. Maybe the ortho who thought linguals wouldn't work was referring to those systems or maybe he's just annoyed has lost your business. My ortho tells me there have been a lot of improvement in linguals techniques in recent years, so maybe the ortho who told you it wouldn't work is just out of date.

thank you so much for the replies, so very helpful. I really do want to go ahead with ibraces I just don't want to make the mistake of choosing vanity over the treatment I really need and have to ge ttraditional braces down the line.

KJK, did you have any problems with the bite alignment in the back of your mouth?

I don't think I did or at least, i never noticed/felt it. My biggest reason for getting iBraces was to correct my two front lateral incisors, which were crooked.

Come to find out that my bite was off too and hence, the wear on my two front teeth -- you think I would have realized that, but I didn't.
