your tongue can be sore and 'scratched' with lingual braces just like your lips and cheeks get 'scratched; with outside braces. THere is no permanent damage (do you think we wold be allowed to use braces that can cause permanent damage) Does the dr in question use lingual braces? It seems like he/she may have been trying to discourage you.

Is it true ?

No it is NOT true that linguals can cause permanent damage by cutting your tongue. Lingual braces can indeed scratch your tongue, as I've experienced a few times, but the tongue soon heals up no problem. The ortho, who I'm assuming doesn't practice with linguals, is scaremongoring. And as drrick said, regular braces scratch your cheeks and lips.

Lingual braces are amazing - after the initial adaptation phase you forget you've got them. They are just as good, if not better than regular braces AND totally invisible.
