POKEY WIRE!!!

The wire the last bracket is connected to is sticking out very very slightly.
It's still enough to hurt my tongue :-+

Just wondering if your tongue gets used to it as it is really sharp.

I couldn't imagine a knife not cutting you the more you messed with it, it's still sharp after all

Thanks in advance :)

Hey lulu,

When you're aware of a sharp corner you literally can't take your mind off it but if you try and stop feeling it with your tongue it shouldnt bother you - I can remember panicking and making an appointment in case my ortho had made a mistake when I felt a sharp edge...but then 24hrs later I'd forgotten about it and cancelled the appointment.

Go get it checked out if you're worried as they can trim ends off but otherwise I reckon you'll forget all about it in a few days :-)

Thanks for the reply lovely :)

I'm not feeling it with my toungue it naturally sticks into the side of my tongue as my arch is very narrow with the wire on.

I must admit though I had to wear wax on it all day yesterday it was too painful but today I am braving it without wax & it's not hurting too much. My tongue is ripped to shreds though

Just feel its affecting my speech because when I talk it scrapes against my tongue, making my tounge feel restricted when talking :FeelSick:

Doubt i'd be able to get in now until after the Christmas period & i'm due back in 3 weeks anyway so i'll see how I get on.

This stupid wire has affected my speech. I sounded like myself with the brackets after a week or so but now not so good. I know it's about adjusting & its meant to take a bit of time but I can't see how i'll sound like me again (although I said that after the brackets were fitted lol). Feel like there is no room in my mouth & I can't move my tongue away from it when I speak & I have that pokey wire dragging along the side of my tongue GRRRRRRRRRRR :-+

Lulu,

I know your pain, i've been dealing with this for a while I even had it trimmed yesterday but my teeth seem to have moved again overnight and now it catches, I just get by with the tiniest bit of wax on there daily.

Don't worry about the speech it will return, as you know, I have a very small mouth but my speech is ok these days, not perfect but acceptable. This powerchain really does hurt though, feels like the pressure is huge as opposed to the brace. Today i've noticed a gap between my 2 front teeth, it's never been there before but now I have a slight gap. Annoying but at least its nice and clean between them now.

Really like the look of this "built up" fake tooth, looks exactly like a normal tooth and takes the power of my sonicare brush with ease. Hoping this gap between my two front teeth doesn't widen any further.

Keep your chin up and we will all be fine...

Hey RobinsonCruesoe

So you've never got used to the wire the whole time you've had the wire fitted? How long has that been again?

My speech is ok. I sometimes sound like me other times I struggle but it's not flowing as well as it did before when I got used to the brackets. I wouldn't of thought a bit of wire would of made much difference overall.

I'm starting to think linguals are too much hard work. Seems you have to put up with more pain, pokey wires, speech problems (and i guess every time you have an adjustment, or power chain etc - you'll battle with this) I'm now wondering if it's all worth it & wish I'd gone for ceramic. Although I probs would of never gotten braces if that was the case so maybe it's not all bad.

Tried eating some crisps earlier OUCH the pain!! I best be ok for Saturday i've got a feast planned lol

My extraction gaps haven't bothered me too much. I've forgotten people might actually be able to see them. I hope I haven't been flashing them lol.

Hi Lulu,

I've had it on for just over a month I'm 100% used to the linguals, they don't really bother me apart from the tiny pokey wire but my daily routine is to brush then put a touch of wax over it and away I go.

The powerchain pain is dying down too, so they just feel normal now. I doubt I'll ever get to the point where I don't notice them but I don't think about them so that's a positive.

When I first had mine put on I could barely chew anything and I guess your at that stage with the wire only just going on? Are your teeth sore? It most definitely dies down though, I had yesterday in pain but today I'm ok, and I'm chewing (gently) again.

Stick with them, I expect normal braces would cause just as much trouble. Give it a week or so and you will be fine.

just over a month & you've had to put up with pain from a pokey wire that entire time???

I don't want to have to use wax every single day for the next 2 years. Normally wax is used to relieve any irration caused from your brace & lets you rest your mouth whilst it heals & then you don't tend to need it again because its toughend up, that's until it moves into another position anyway. But sounds like i'm constantly going to need it just so my tongue doesn't get cut to shreds & means i'll be flying through wax :(

Yeah my teeth are so painful. It's the front 4.

My bottom teeth ocassionally catch my top brackets & WOW THE PAIN IS IMMENSE!!
It's woke me up in the night too. Soooooo painful. More so than my pokey wire lol.

I did forget the brackets were there but now i've got the wire attached I don't think i'll forget. It constantly reminds me its there, digging in my tongue & now I have nowhere to rest my tongue except sitting it on it.

I hope it's going to be the same as before & i'll adapt & forget all about this

Hey guys,

Happy Christmas!!

I know it can feel disheartening to be in so much discomfort sometimes but I promise promise promise that in months to come you will literally forget that you have braces on...you will suddenly think to yourself...'man alive I've got these things strapped to my teeth and I literally havent thought about them for days!!'

The speech thing is hard to predict...some days your tongue seems to catch on everything and you feel like a big slurry mess, the next day you'll feel like you're the queen of braces :-)

After the first couple of adjustments you might feel a bit slurry afterwards but literally only for an hour or so...but I can honestly say I cant remember the last adjustment that affected speech or anything.

I'm still aware of them when I eat, literally cannot wait to eat a massive burger when I get them off in a few months!!

Over the festive season I've seen a few friends that I hadn't seen so far this year...the amount of conversations I've had with people saying 'really, theres something different about you I just cant put my finger on...' I give them a huge smile and say, yes its my teeth, yes they're AWESOME!! So glad I went the lingual route or it'd be a lot longer before I'm doing such huge grins!! :-D

Keep going everyone, the pain is worth it!!! xxx

Hi Jessica,

Happy Christmas to you too,

To be honest, i'm very happy with my linguals already. I can't imagine getting to that point of not thinking about them but i'm sure it will come, my main issues now seem to be whenever I go out drinking like yesterday, the day after my mouth is so sore and seems to catch everything. I don't know if the alcohol dries my mouth out or because i'm in a drunken state I don't notice it catching so my tongue ends up cut up.

Aside from that i'm delighted, I would love more movement but I accept it will get there at some point so no rush. Very comfortable with my speech too, went out for the whole day yesterday and not one of my friends from back home noticed a thing and they would definitely say something if that was the case.

Thanks for your support
