Fears of Lingual?? Don't worry

#1 Post by RobinsonCruesoe »

Hello guys,

I've posted a similar topic before but i'm now 2 months in and honestly I can't believe how easy the Linguals have been. Don't get me wrong the first few weeks are a little tough on speech but I found that was a conscious thing, I still lisp every now and then but don't care. I recently gave a presentation to 100+ people and didn't even think about it. I didn't get the sore tongue others seem to get, apart from after nights of heavy drinking when a drunken slur gets heightened to barely speaking english.

If you are conscious of being braces being seen then linguals are the way to go, I only have top linguals and can safely say they are the best decision i've made in my life...SO FAR.

My teeth have started to move a lot and I have gaps all over the place on my upper arch, it doesn't look great at the moment but the amount of movement has been unreal. My orthodontist had the look I wanted when I went for my last adjustment which was the look of shock at how quickly they were moving, seems Protein shakes might be helping.

My only issue has been chewing, I can't chew with my upper front teeth but that is probably because that's where I need all of my movement so the teeth are quite unstable. Which has led to some weight loss, which isn't needed in my case so I need to put that back on.

But anyone with any major concerns just read of the experiences of me and Lulu, we both had them on at a similar time and we both are getting on with the linguals so well.

Good luck to all

Yep I totally agree with the above, I too have been braced for two months and it's now all silky smooth sailing. In fact after about the first month of adjusting to the linguals, I barely noticed them at all! Gone is the speech impediment, cut tongue, sore gums, dribbling, eating pain and self-consciousness of extraction gaps. Very occassionally I will lisp a word out but on repetition I can usually nail it.

The changes I've seen already are phenomenal, front four incisors look dead straight already with no evidence of crowding anymore. Lower arch is coming along nicely too, can see the overly crowded teeth beginning to space out and close into the extraction gaps.

I am able to eat anything and everything I used to eat pre-braces (never ate nuts or toffee etc anyway) so am really happy about that. I only needed to use wax for the first 2-3 weeks and even then only sparingly. Nobody I haven't told has noticed I have braces (or let on that they've noticed anyway). Lately I've caught a couple of people I know stealing glances at my front teeth when I'm smiling and I can tell they're thinking 'something is different about him' but can't put their finger on it. I am already smiling more confidently as my much improved top teeth are all people can see when I smile.

Getting lingual braces has been an overwhelmingly positive experience for me. Minor discomfort in the first two weeks and having unpleasant extractions have been the only downsides so far. Anyone sitting on the fence re getting braces should just jump in, YOU WON'T REGRET IT!!

Jaffa,

I couldn't agree more, my teeth are starting to get used to biting but as my top arch was quite crowded there is still a bit of movement needed so until this settles I doubt it will be painfree. The movement is incredible though my rotated canine and lateral incisor on my right side are almost perfect already, the left hasn't really moved but I think my ortho is concentrating on one at a time.

But to anyone on the fence, read of both mine, Jaffa and Lulu's experience and jump in!!
