new to linguals

#1 Post by grlfriendinacoma »

Hi everyone...i got my lower linguals fitted last thursday so this is day 6 of having them on. I'm feeling kind of discouraged. My problem is lots of crowding and an overbite...i think a crossbite as well? I had lovely teeth until i was about 12 when they began getting crowded. I then had four teeth extracted and the oral surgeon said they would all just "fall into place" Even at 12 i thought this sounded like BS. Anyways...they didn't and I was too stupid to get them fixed in highschool. I'm now 25 years old and tired of the crooked teeth hate. I think its safe to say i don't know anyone else with crooked teeth and i'm tired of feeling judged. so...linguals it is!

My teeth and gums hurt ALOT. my tongue isn't getting cut up or sore so i'm happy about that...but I am still struggling with speech. I notice its worse if i get nervous about it and try extra hard, which makes sense. The less i think about speaking normally the better i sound. The thing that's really getting to me is all the tooth pain. Every day it seems to get a bit worse. I know everyone's experience is different, but most people I talked to (they had all had traditional front braces as young kids and teens) said the pain is bad the first couple days and then you feel it everytime you get your braces tightened. I'm experiencing increasing pressure and pain every day...if i pop a tyleonol or something the pain sort of subsides but i'm left with a weird feeling like my teeth are "itchy"inside. is this all normal? I've been trying to clean as much as possible but it's really hard to get at the gums in the back and i'm worried all the pain is due to my gums being unhealthy.
another issue is when i woke up this morning the wire felt different....not like its poking out or has come out of the end bracket, but it just feels looser like there's less tension (i've been testing the tension everyday with my tongue so i know that something's definitely different). Is this something i should call my ortho about or is it normal for the wire to get a bit stretched. if the teeth are actually moving out it seems like the wire should be stretching tighter not getting saggier.

i don't know if i can deal with tooth pain every day for however long these crazy things are gonna be on :(
getting the uppers done mid next week and i know its only going to get worse. i'll probably be lisping like an idiot.
needs positive reinforcement stat :|

Hi huni

Just stopping by to show you some love :D

I can relate to having crooked minging teeth whilst everyone else seems to have beautiful straight nashers. I've never had straight adult teeth. Linguals helped me finally do something about it & stop me from putting it off any longer.

I can't relate to what your saying but if in doubt ring your ortho's office & ask them. They'll know if it's worth coming down for a check up or not.

What feels like it's itching your gums or teeth? I used to get an itching sensation in my gums on my 2 lower front teeth. My gum has receded a little there too. Since i've upped my hygiene routine & started flossing pretty much every day without fail it seems to have stopped. Maybe you need to get flossing. I'd try that first.

Also it does sound odd your teeth are getting more painful. What i've found is that my teeth hurt (lowers more than uppers & they hurt like hell) lasted a week roughly. The pain didn't get worse though. I've also found that in between adjustments teeth would randomly start hurting (not like when they were first fitted though).

If in doubt ring your ortho for some advice. They won't mind.

Hang in there you might have doubts at the mo but once you hit that 1 month mark you won't be looking back. It might not even take that long.
