People saying "Oh you didn't need braces?"

I have had my lingual braces on for one week now and I can't believe how many people (yes, including my Mom and sister) who say I didn't need them. My top teeth have always had a slight "protrusion" that I have always hated, and at 47, I noticed was starting to get a bit worse. My bottom teeth are crooked in front, but that didn't bother me to much. Oh well, my orthodontist listened to me whine when I got a pokey wire sanded yesterday and said "yes you do, and maybe they do to, so send them my way"..
Anybody else have people tell you that you didn't need them??

Hi Lani64, yes my friends and colleagues have also said that to me. My teeth are slightly crooked both top and bottom, but they are nice teeth and when I smile people don't notice the crookedness really, especially from the front, but from an angle I think it's noticeable because some jut out slightly, some are behind others slightly. When I point it out friends have said 'oh yeh, I really never noticed that before', some have said 'why braces now?'. I'm 40 and have never had braces before so I'm glad I'm getting them sorted now, better late than never! I wish you a less painful week - it's not easy is it!! I'm looking forward to having lovely straight teeth in a years time. Every day is a step closer to that dream!

Thanks Butterfly. Nice to know I am not the only one
Your teeth sound very similar to mine. Its will be 2 weeks tomorrow and I feel much better as far as the pain goes. I am 46 and I can't wait to see my new smile either!

Everyone told me I didn't need braces too. Most people say "what was wrong with your teeth". However, once you have braces you notice everyones teeth and all of the flaws with them. Now a year and a half later after an amazing transformation I will be getting my braces off. I just don't understand how people don't notice the flaws with teeth. (Although honestly, maybe I didn't really notice other peoples flaws prior to getting braces)
