New Member - Getting Incognito Lite!

#1 Post by kpax2013 »

Hi all! Been enjoying all the old posts - helps to see that others had the same questions & fears that I do. I've just made the decision to get Incognito Lite - get my molds done next week. I'm excited (and nervous) - but mostly excited. :D

What brings me here: I had braces as a teen, but my teeth have moved since then (I'm almost 40 now). My front teeth have been getting increasingly crowded, and I have one tooth that I affectionately call my snaggle tooth. It keeps moving further up & out, looking worse & worse. Was originally considering Invisalign, but I just don't think I'd be diligent enough to keep them in as much as you need to. Plus the hassle of removing them to eat/drink, especially in social situations. So the ortho said I was a candidate for Incognito and Incognito Lite. I opted for the 'Lite' mostly due to the cost. I was encouraged to see how quickly some people have seen results w/ these too.

So anyway, just wanted to introduce myself. I'm just beginning my braces journey & hope to post regular updates - and probably lots of questions!

So it's finally official! Just got my Incognito Lite yesterday. I had to wait longer than usual because my ortho said they made 2 or 3 adjustments with 3M (the manufacturer) before finalizing the treatment plan; think it took ~3 months for my trays to come in.

It's only been 24 hours, but here's what I can share so far:

- I'm hungry  . Everyone who's done this has said eating is a challenge, and they were right. Not just because teeth are sore, but also because my bottom teeth hit my top brackets first, so it's going to be tough to chew, even when I feel like it. Sticking to liquid meal supplements, smoothies, yogurt, egg salad, etc. for the next couple weeks. Sort of an involuntary diet to get ready for swimsuit season...

- The process of getting them put on was pretty straight-forward, appt lasted 2 hrs.

- Wax is my new best friend. Will try not to be uber-dependent, but for now, I'm going to use it when I need it.

- Oral hygiene is tricky. Gonna take some practice getting my teeth clean back there. Glad I invested in a waterpik, it already has shown to get some 'stuff' out that the toothbrush didn't. Haven't attempted flossing yet, will try that tonight.

- I'm taking quite a bit of Advil to take the edge off. It does seem to help.

- Ortho has estimated my treatment time to be no more than 18 months. Seems far away, but time goes by so fast, I'm sure it'll be here before I know it.

Good luck to everybody - if you're considering linguals, be sure to share your story & ask questions. This message board has been SO helpful.
