Getting rid of the lisp :((

Hi,
So after I got my lower ceramic braces two weeks ago, I got m upper lingual braces three days ago.
I don't have ANY pain at all which I find strange- Does that mean they don't work?
But my main concern is the lisp- I have a TERRIBLE lisp since I got them. Not just a bit, no, it's absolutely awful. It's so bad that a friend of mine asked me a few minutes after meeting me if I have something in my mouth or got dental work done because I talk really weird. My orthodontist didn't warn me that it would be THAT bad, she just said I might talk a bit weird the first day or so.
I have a huge lisp when using the S or the C. It hasn't gotten any better in the last three days although I talked a lot and tried to practise. Does the lisp ever go away? I can't imagine to have this big lisp for a year or so. And most important, do you guys have tips how to get rid of it?
Thank you!

Yes, it calms down!
However, it will feel bad to you for ages after other people stop noticing.
My biggest tip in the mean time? WAX! Get some good silicone wax on there pronto. It makes *everything* better

Yes, it does get better after a while. Your mouth will adjust !
My speech was horrible when I got my braces fitted. I wasn't prepared for it... I had been told that it would be a bit uncomfortable when eating and speaking... Actually, I couldn't even articulate words properly...
Anyhow, it's been 6 months now and I speak almost normally. All my friends and colleagues can't hear a difference. The speech issue stopped approx. after 1 or 2 months.
My tip would be to stop caring. Speak slowly. The wax used to make my speech problem worse so I didn't rely on it too much (painful at first but I have a tongue of iron now) Always have a bottle of water with you. If I don't drink I start lisping like crazy!
Good luck, and be patient
you'll be fine!

Thank you
I hope it really will disappear asap.
I tried wax and it also didn't work for me. It made the lisp disappear a bit, but I got other speech problems haha.
And what do you guys say about not being in pain? I had my second adjustment on my lower jaw and I've had the upper lingual ones in for four days now and I wasn't in pain at all. No eating problems, no pain, nothing. The only discomfort I felt is when I tried to floss my teeth, it hurt a bit, but that was it.
Does the lack of pain mean that the teeth are maybe not moving?

Hi! I was appalled by how I sounded the three weeks after I got my upper linguals fit. I was so afraid that it wouldn't get better and considered taking them out. I meet clients and have to look and sound the part, which I didn't do at all. But, almost overnight about three weeks in, my speech changed. It hasn't got any better from there (I'm almost three months in), but I sound normal to other people. I can still hear the difference but my partner with whom I live with, can't.
If I'm drunk or nervous, I'll lisp. Fortunately, I almost never drink. Unfortunately, I'm nervous quite often

My lisp was awful to begin with! and also very little/no pain. 6 months on my speech is normal and my teeth are straight - but there was an initial month or so before my tongue figured it out. I found the silicone wax invaluable in creating a totally smooth surface for my tongue to move across when speaking... Good luck! It is totally worth it! And improves eventually!
