Getting braced today!
Today's the day! 2 hours until my appointment. Lots of hardware going in... they tell me to anticipate being there for 2.5 hours
. I'm probably way more excited about today than I should be lol. Wish me luck!

That's amazing! Please let us know how it went. I'm about 6 months into my braces and I'm already counting down the days! :)

Re: Getting braced today!
The deed is done! The appointment was painless... In and out in about 2 hours. I had braces before, so I pretty much knew what to expect. They've been on for 48 hours, and so far, no tooth pain except when I bite down onto something hard with my front teeth. The TPA appliance is something new to me this go-around, and it's not nearly as unpleasant as I had feared. Dare I say, it's fun to rake my tongue against, and only somewhat of a nuisance when food gets stuck between it and my palate.
The one thing that is driving me absolutely nuts are the tongue spurs. I have a bad tongue thrust, and re-training my tongue is important for keeping things looking good once the braces come off. Well I can say they most certainly work! My poor tongue was macerated into oblivion in the first day. Now I'm very conscious of keeping my tongue far away from them. Eating and speaking have been quite the challenge... I've resorted to more of a beer and milkshake diet, and only attempting to eat solid foods twice a day (very slowly and carefully, so that I don't hit the evil tongue spurs!). The resulting lisp is fairly pronounced. Initially I was supposed to get these braces on in the middle of a work week. I'm glad that my appointment had to get rescheduled for while I was on vacation. Hopefully I sound a little less ridiculous when I return to work next week.
In spite of the unpleasant adjustments, my spirits are still high. Can't say I'm looking forward to the next 18 months, but it'll be worth it in the end!
