Braces, Flutes, and Gums

#1 Post by proflutist »

I have had braces for about five months now, and I play the flute. It hasn't been harder to play, (unless you count the first week or so) but the pressure from my braces are ripping up my gums. It heals, but after I get adjustments my teeth move and my gums get ripped up again. Is there any advice people have to help strengthen my gums? I've heard that rinsing my mouth with saltwater every night helps, and I read in a magazine that I subscribe to that there is some sort of mouth guard that fits over your braces to make the playing easier, but I haven't seen anything like that, even on Google. Please help!
