Do I Absolutely Need Spacers

#1 Post by Libby4613 »

Hey everyone! I'm new to the forum and although I'm not an adult I thought someone here could share some knowledge/wisdom. I'm getting braces sometime soon, but I'm not sure when. The card I have for my appointment says "Appointment: Start, Appointment Length: 30 minutes."
So my question is this: Does everyone need spacers before getting bands put on? I don't know what's going on at my appointment, so I think I might be getting the bands put right on... can anyone help? :?

Libby, not all orthos use spacers. Mine put buccal tubes (brackets) on all my molars and they work just fine. And I've got some heavily filled teeth back there!

I suggest you call up the office and see what's planned for you.

my brackets are glued (no spacers) onto my molars my KIDS brackets are banded (needed spacers) onto their molars.

Different ortho's: different treatment plans.

Call ahead if you're concerned.

If your ortho is using Damon 3's there's a HUGE chance there are no spacers. Other methods, I don't know so much.

good luck!!!

That's not true about the Damon 3 brackets. I have Damon 3's and I have bands on my molars. It all depends on the ortho. Some use bands and some don't. If you're going to have bands, then you'll probably have spacers, too.

I'm sorry if I implied that Damons NEVER use bands. That was not my intention. Only that one is far less likely to have bands with Damons...
