That is kind of weird  when I was looking for orthodontic stuff online I happened across a site which will actually make fake braces to order (you can send impressions in and they will make them specially for you). It's aimed at the fetish market I think.

Its so weird that braces are seen by some people as a fashion statement. I mean, I don't think they look particularly ugly or anything, but I don't think they make you look that much cuter either. If anything, I think they make you look a little younger (depending on your age, and how you look, of course.) I suppose this could be a plus, if you wanted to look younger, but I don't think that braces nessesarily make you look more attractive, but to each his own I suppose.

Yeah, that item has been in the news for a while now. Apparently some schools in Asia are banning fake braces and even "grillz".
I'm the owner/admin of this site. Had ceramic uppers, metal lowers ~3 years in my early 40's. Now in Hawley retainers at night!

Man, that's great ammunition for people in our shoes though. In one post here I was talking about a human resources manager at my work who more or less called me weird or funny that I got braces at my age (she laughed in my face when I talked about going for an adjustment.)
Had I have known this before, I could have replied : "You think I'm weird for doing something good for me, there's some places where people think it's a fad and go for fake ones."
Then again, it is a matter of to each their own. I just don't see the purpose in the fake ones I guess.

Me either. It's so odd. But then again I've been to Asia and they do alot of "western" things that we do, or have what we have but it's taken to the extreme and out of context. Very confusing.

The FDA is trying to shut down those types of businesses cause the fake braces do nothing but more harm to the persons mouth, come on I know there cheaper but hell just get the real deal!

Well, I think the point is they don't want their teeth to move, they just want the look of braces. Getting the "real deal" would involve actual orthodontic work... and they couldn't put them on/take them off as the mood takes them.

As much as the FDA would like to think so, they don't have any authority in Thailand. I doubt the FDA is really too concerned for the trend over there because it's way out of of their sphere of influence. If it comes over here, then that's a different story.

I guess it's a bit odd, but I'm not bothered by it. I like how people look in braces and I thought I looked better with braces when I had them on. I honestly liked my braces. Just because many people don't like their braces is it really so far out of the realm of possibility that some people do? Odd as it may seem, we're not all the same.

I don't like piercings and tattoos, but there are a lot of people who do. Who am I to judge what someone else likes as long as it's not harming anyone? When my friends show me their new tattoos I look at them, see how good the artist is, and say, "Very nice!" Just because it's not something I would ever do doesn't mean I have to judge someone for the worse because they did it.
