He Proposed!

#1 Post by nicholeuf »

We got engaged over the weekend!! :o

So, we want to get married next summer, but I will still be braced at that time with possibly another 6 months left in my 18-24 month sentence. Oh the dilemma! I am so happy with the progress I've made so far and I think the ceramics on my top teeth may not look too bad.

I was wondering, of all of the brides out there, did you decide to take the braces off or leave them on for the wedding? What was your experience? If you are getting married, what have you decided to do?

Thank you!

I just wanted to say congratulations, nicholeuf. Sorry, I was married before I got my braces. One option, if you leave them on is to have the photos touched up...

Congratulations on your engagement! :D

Why not just leave your braces on for your wedding. Would it be so awful that your braces show a bit in your pictures? Your photos would be an accurate portrayal of your life on that special day.

From one bride-to-be to another, CONGRATS!!! :-)o

I just got engaged 3 weekends ago, and I had the same thoughts as you. This is what I did... I called my ortho, and explained what was going on. He told me for the weekend of my wedding, he could take off just the top braces (I have clear on top, and metal on bottom), as long as I come back in the Monday after the wedding to have them put back on. Of course, thsi will all be for an extra fee! I too will have about 6 months left when we get married, and just don't want them on when I go around talking to people and in my pictures. Call me vain, but I want naked teeth!!!!

My teeth will be straight by then, but it will be hard to have them put back on after a "free" weekend.

Ask your ortho after you think about it if you want to do it. It is possible! Good luck and keep us posted! Again, CONGRATS!!!!

Congratulations!!!

I had this dilemma while I was deciding to get braces. I didn't want to pay the extra fee ($600-$800 US) and go through the hassle to have them removed the day of the wedding. So I just decided to wait until after I got married to get them on.

But since you already have them on, and if I was in your situation, I would probably want to have them taken off. I really didn't want them to be in my wedding pictures... Call me vain or whatever.

But the decision is yours. Go with your gut girly!

Nicholeuf what part of Tampa are you in? I'm in Tampa as well. We might be seeing the same ortho!

Congrats!

I'm not near the "proposal stage" yet with my bf, but I'm in braces for up to two more years so who knows what will happen between now and then? I have to admit that I've thought of the issue of being married while wearing braces, and I'm not thrilled with the idea.

If I was going for a big wedding with a bunch of guests, I personally would have them removed for the day. Or I'd wait until they came off before having the wedding. But it's up to your own personal comfort level. 25 years down the road, do you think it will bother you seeing a mouth full of metal in all of your wedding photos? No one can answer that but you.

Hi - congrats on your engagement! I have the same dilemma. But the hassle of having the braces taken off (when it sounds like such a horrible procedure anyway :S ) makes me think it may be better to stick with them and get the photos touched up.

Or leave them as is and laugh over them in 10 years time!

Congrats!

I had my consultation before I was engaged. I talked with the ortho about how I will get married during my treatment time. He said he can take them off for the wedding day and put them back on afterwards. I think he was giong to do it no charge since I already paid it all up front.

I got braces in January, engaged in March, wedding is next July. I am hoping that I will get them off early, but my treatment time is 2 years. I think I may be able to get them off early since my ortho seems to be impressed by my progress.

Anyway, I will most likely get them taken off for the big day. He said he will take them all off except for the metal bands on my molars. My fiancee who has had braces said that it feels weird to get them off. So I hope I can get them off a month before so I can get used to it and eat all our yummy reception food!

Do you have ceramic braces? Would you consider maybe just having a tooth coloured wire?

I am not in that position and its everyones individual choice.. All brides want to look their best on their wedding day,

:D

Congratulations on the engagement nicholeuf!!

I will be getting married next June and will have my braces on. I've posted on other topics about this too. Like most people say, you can talk to your ortho about having the braces removed for the wedding. Or, you can talk to your photographer about editing your photos.

A friend of my sister's is our photographer and I told her about the braces. She said "No problem." I doubt I'd have money to get them temporarily removed. I don't care about our guests seeing me with braces, but I want our photos to have them edited out.
