as some may know i soon get braced, but im curious about the 2 appointments i have. on 7th Novemeber i get the spacers. Ok.. but 20 hours later, 8th Novemeber 8am, im getting braced. Isnt that a bit short? I never heard about them only be worn 20 hours. Dont they need some days to produce some space?
Some rare ppl wrote they never got spacers at all, how does the Doc apply the bands then? Raw power? Sounds a bit scary.
Also im getting 8 Bands, i think all Molars, 2 each side each jaw. Why i get so many? All others ive seen or heard of had 4-6 ~
Maybe because im getting some kind of expander? Will i get it the first day? May that be? I didnt asked about that the last time cos i had so many other questions...
Maybe if you are getting spacers on bottom ,you might be going in to get braces on top. Did you ask your ortho if the bands will be put on 20 hrs later? Do you have some sort of gap there already and maybe he feels that just a tiny bit more space can be made in 24hrs.
I had molar bands and I only had spacers for 5 hours - spacers at 10am, braces at 3pm. Admittedly, he couldn't get one of the bands on so he left the spacer there and I went back the next week, but the other one was fine. A lot of it depends on your teeth - I happened to have quite a lot of room so it wasn't hard to make a gap. And remember that the spacer is only creating a temporary gap, just so the ortho can get the molar band on. It's kind of like wedging something in to make a gap, then letting go as soon as you've shoved something in the gap. Not a great analogy but you get the point!
